after installing mandrake 9.1 my system hangs after the bios check with a lilo checksum error & wont go any further. It is the only operating system on the hard drive. Any ideas ? |

Try booting from your boot floppy that you made during the install process and re-install LILO - log in as root and run /sbin/lilo. |

Thanks for the reply. I've got it going. Now i've got to get the nvidea driver for a gforce mx460. The driver in linux doesn't support it properly. Also i need a driver for an alcatel speedtouch modem. Are there any drivers available that install the same way as windows, ie automatically, or do they all have to be compiled. |

Nvidia have just released an automatic update for their linux drivers that should make installing them quite easy (aparantly).
As for the modem, you will have to find out what chipset it uses. Having a look in the Mandrake Control center under hardware should tell you, otherwise open a terminal and run "lspci". |
