133804 2003-04-06 05:00:00 A while ago I remember you said that you had some 8mm film from the 1950's "professionally" transferred to videotape (and from thence no doubt to DVD).

I have a fair bit of super 8 film from 1960's that is deteriorating and I don't now have any means of viewing them, and I want to keep. Some of it is pretty good, some is pretty bad.

Can you give me some idea as to how your experience turned out, was the overall result well worthwhile, idea of cost, and idea of what sort of person/organisation is good at doing this sort of thing, and where?

Ta(rk). Any comments greatly valued.

133805 2003-04-06 06:46:00 Depending on where you are, in Christchurch for example there was a company called Shipleys or Shipleys Video, I don't know if they are still in business or have branches else where but they were able to transfer video, make backups, etc. Gordon. (2217)
133806 2003-04-06 07:18:00 Shipleys in Christchurch did the conversion (about 12 years ago now!)
(Shipleys AudioVisual, 03 379 5166)
or shipleys at shipleys dot co dot nz
(just got that from the phone book)
As to quality, you could see some degradation, but the old 8 mm wasn't that flash to start with.

Not much more quality was lost in converting them to digital, and at least they are permanent now.

I cannot remember what the cost was, there were about 50 or more reels of film, made 2 x 2 hour VHS tapes.
