1334396 2013-03-28 10:37:00 Have been trying to update XP Pro since this afternoon but only to receive this:
"The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view"

My PC problem or MS problem?

1334398 2013-03-28 19:12:00 If IE 6 is still on it get IE 8 separately, then install it. Then see if it works Speedy Gonzales (78)
1334399 2013-03-28 19:33:00 It's IE 8.

Still getting this problem.

1334400 2013-03-28 19:57:00 Disable addons / toolbars / reset it. See if that fixes it Speedy Gonzales (78)
1334401 2013-03-28 20:36:00 Reset doesn't help.

I think it has something to do with ActiveX control. Usually the Install ActiveX Control pops up asking permission to install this but I couldn't see this pop up in IE.

How do I install it manually?

1334402 2013-03-28 20:52:00 Did anyone disable anything like BITS under msconfig / services?? If its disabled, it needs to be enabled for WU to work. And for that activex prompt to work. Diane in here had the same prob (activex) it was because BITS was disabled under msconfig. After I enabled it, WU worked, so did activex Speedy Gonzales (78)
1334403 2013-03-28 21:20:00 It was stopped in MSConfig. Enabled it but still can't see the ActiveX pop up.

Uninstalled and re-installed IE8 doesn't help.

1334404 2013-03-28 21:30:00 Was it unticked in msconfig?? If it was tick it then reboot. Get farbar service scanner (www.bleepingcomputer.com), run it. Then tick all but the last option. Copy and paste what comes up, in here

Check in services / not msconfig what BITS is on. It should be on automatic / delayed start (I think). Thats whats its on in Win7 anyway

1334405 2013-03-28 21:55:00 It was ticked but status was stopped, originally. I then set it to automatic in Services, rebooted and it's now running.

Here is the scanner results:
