1309000	2012-10-26 21:51:00	I was just reading an article on another PC site titled "5 Reasons You Should Upgrade To Windows 8" and it got me to posting about my pet hate ..... and that is the word "App" One of the reasons listed on the site(no.2) was "A whole new world of apps". Now me being in this game for nearly as long as Windows, it has always been "Programmes" or "Programs" as the US spell it. When you go to your Control Panel you get "Add & Remove Programs" or "Programs & Features" (or Just "Programs" in Vista) its "Programs" people, and not bloody "Apps". Additionally your start menu says "All Programs", not All Apps. Apps, which I presume is short for "Applications" you have on your iPad, iPhone, iWhatever or your Android device, or maybe to be more correct smartphones and tablet devices regardless of OS. not on a Windows Based system in my opinion. In fact maybe Apple should try and claim Apps in a patent!! Admittedly, I cant remember what Windows 8 refers to them as, as I did test it months ago, but havent looked at it since. (I just downloaded the 32bit and 64bit Win 8 Pro from the Partner network last night but havent installed them on anything as yet). Maybe Win 8 has jumped on the word as it seems to be in fashion these days. The word "Apps" makes me cringe every time I hear it and to see it being used in PC Mags and PC Websites when talking about your Apps on Windows XP/Vista/7 etc really makes me want to throw something. So, think about it........ am I to old fashioned..... am I plain wrong...... should "Apps" be kept to smart devices and "Programs" for real computers?.... or should I jump out of the window of a very tall building (a bit tricky in Chch) in silent protest. In a word.... I hate "Apps". There, all done, now I'm off to install a "Program" !!! :) Whats your thoughts?	Iantech (16386)

Yes . And Windows 8 is a device O/S not a PC O/S . PCs as we know them will soon be extinct . And we will all be running around with our idevice (or maybe a Samsung or something for the resistant) . 1309009	2012-10-27 01:20:00	For me an "app" is a mobile piece of software designed for mobile platforms as a native package, Applications or programmes are for full PC's. Applets should be confined to the Java VM and Apples just belong on trees.	The Error Guy (14052)
