| 1308579 | 2012-10-25 04:03:00 | www.stuff.co.nz About 50 call centre jobs in Auckland face the axe as state-owned enterprise Kordia cuts costs. The company said it planned to outsource the call centre of internet provider Orcon, which Kordia acquired for $24.3 million in 2007, to Wellington-based Datacom, which would transfer the work to Manilla. Orcon chief executive Scott Bartlett, who will take up a new role in Kordia, believed many affected staff would find jobs at Australia's second largest broadband provider, iiNet, which operates a call centre in Auckland. Kordia at the same time appeared to put paid to speculation it might sell off Orcon by announcing it would fully "integrate" the consumer and small business internet provider into Kordia's network business. Orcon would cease to exist as a separate business, though a spokeswoman said the Orcon brand would live on. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I know a few people who had the misfortune to work at Iinet. They all left in a hurry and would never go back. I seriously doubt many would jump at the chance..... |

| 1308580 | 2012-10-25 04:18:00 | I heard through the rumor mill this was coming about a fortnight ago. Interesting to see how this plays out :D | Chilling_Silence (9) | ||
| 1308581 | 2012-10-25 05:33:00 | Good luck to Scott, deserved to some extent. But of what use to the consumer? The quality of service at Orcon has dramatically dropped this year alone, and no-one gives a stuff. Staff become disaffected and the customer suffers. "Everyone is providing crap service and it's fun to be back to what I'm good at - which is exceeding customer expectations at a particular price point." *** Yes, yes. I'll be watching events particularly as my contract with Orcon has reached its best before date - and its use-by date with me. *** Seeby Woodhouse (www.nbr.co.nz) |

| 1308582 | 2012-10-25 05:53:00 | I have better ring them up to cancel my account before it goes to Manila. They have rather passed the use by date as well.. Seems that they ignore the people on broadband only and only interested in the ones who want Genius and if my sons attempt to go to Genius this week is anything to go by I won't touch it with a 40" bargepole.. | paulw (1826) | ||
