1307750 2012-10-20 05:09:00 goo.gl do we think of this idea for producing petrol.

Sounds a bit Micky mouse, but we live in hope of a breakthrough.

1307752 2012-10-20 06:42:00 How much coal do do they have to burn at the power station to make the petrol? prefect (6291)
1307753 2012-10-20 06:47:00 about the same as if we all bought electric cars gary67 (56)
1307754 2012-10-20 07:05:00 My sceptical mind says the story is a long way short of economic production.

They use Hydrogen electrolysed from water for part of the process.... which requires loads of energy. Then there's all the bull where they try to concentrate atmospheric carbon.

There is sense to their attempts to produce a liquid fuel, as it's compact and simple to store, and eliminates the need to create batteries for a billion electric cars, but I suspect a cleaner and simpler solution will be found that avoids carbon entirely... like their intermediate step that produces oxygen and hydrogen, which will very readily recombine explosively, much like gasoline.

1307755 2012-10-20 08:30:00 My word! This could be almost as big a breakthrough as The Soup Stone (en.wikipedia.org). R2x1 (4628)
1307756 2012-10-20 20:18:00 I would agree with paul, why not make Hydrogen and oxygen and run them like LPG vehicles The Error Guy (14052)
1307757 2012-10-20 20:21:00 I will try and get their tel#, you can put them on right track. Cicero (40)
1307758 2012-10-20 21:54:00 Looks like just another variation of what is now a fairly traditional scam. The system actually can be shown to produce fuel alright but the costs involved make it totally uneconomic to do so. The scam comes when they extract cash from those foolish enough to buy shares in the company set up to supposedly produce a commercial product. CliveM (6007)

I agree its a scam, the energy used will be as much or more than electrolysis.
