2012-10-24 19:40:00 | Try 0161 971 528 289 xxx from a landline - it's cheaper and being an alt dialling system it might work. www.telecom.co.nz Interesting. Wonder how the calls are being routed. Must ask..

2012-10-24 21:11:00 | Well, we have hit the wall. Our daughter in Oz is able to call him without difficulty and her dialling code is simply the Oz variant of our system. Telecom's International operator confirmed that we are dialing the correct sequence of numbers, but when we try to call, we get the message "the number is no longer available or has changed". At this point we will just have to draw a line across it until something changes. He will have a number for his apartment building operator soon so we will be able to contact him then. Interestingly, there is no dial on his apartment phone and all incoming and outgoing calls must pass through the Building operator. I haven't had problems like this since all local or international toll calls had to go through an operator. Is it possible that a SIM card could be incorrectly programmed or some such issue? It does seem to be localised to just his phone and calls from NZ's Country Code. Cheers Billy 8-{) Afterthought: We have unlimited 24/7 free calling to Oz on my business phone, so wouldn't it be nice if we could dial in to Oz then dial out to Dubai. :) Somehow I get the feeling that just wouldn't work though!

The UAE 052 range for mobile numbers is fairly recent. "Officials said the 052 prefix will be launched in the first quarter of 2012." Maybe the recorded voice is local (Telecom). Try calling from another carrier. |

2012-10-25 03:41:00 | Telecom's operator confirmed the 052 prefix for UAE (but you don't dial the 0) so it is reasonable to assume that it is known to them and operational. As regards using another Carrier, we don't have access to anything other than Telecom so we are stymied there as well. I'll leave it a couple of days then try Telecom again, I might get a different story or persuade one to dial the number to try it. Cheers Billy 8-{)

2012-10-25 08:47:00 | Can your son call you from that number? I don't know yet, and we do plan to try that, but due to the time difference and the fact that the band works at night we only have a limited time overlap to use . I'm going to phone Telecom again tomorrow to see if I can get them to try it, but I'll probably have to go up to Supervisor level for that . It won't cost them a cent so that is the least that they can do, after all, it is a dialling out problem, which seems to point the finger in this direction, and the phone works for calls from Australia . | 1308227 | 2012-10-26 20:05:00 | Had a problem something similar earlier this year, my sister was in London and when she went to Europe, got a new Sim card. I recieved her text messages but she couldn't recieve mine, think I had to wait till she got back to poverty rock before I could contact her again. | Whenu (9358) | |
