1308923 2012-10-27 01:40:00 My wife just figured it out.

They will release another one 6 months later with USB 3 and a slightly slimmer frame :D

1308924 2012-10-27 02:16:00 Too bad the USB port is only USB 2. Sad face.

The Surface released yesterday has USB 2.0, the Surface Pro coming out a few months later has USB 3.0 (and Windows 8, not Windows RT).

Oh, and it's also slightly thicker :p

1308925 2012-10-27 23:10:00 So the Surface comes in two flavours - RT and Pro right? RT isn't compatible with normal windows software but Pro is? So it can be like a portable Netbook running all the good old software? Nomad (952)
1308926 2012-10-27 23:36:00 Surface RT is designed for ARM Architecture whilst the Surface pro runs on x86.

The Pro will run all x86 binary and metro apps, the RT will Run Metro apps, whether or not it will run "desktop" apps designed for the ARM architecture is unknown by myself.

The reason for this was to allow Win8 into the mobile arena, the great thing about metro is that it will allow desktop/mobile applications to be cross architecture compatible. Normal programmes like those on your PC now are referred to as "Desktop applications" and I think they are only available on pro. I'm not sure if you can make desktop applications for the ARM RT based systems or if you have to stick to Metro.

Still, it's a lot better than Droid/iOS when it comes to inter system operation IMO

1308927 2012-10-27 23:39:00 Apparently there is no side loading of apps to the RT desktop, so yes all from the App Store plod (107)
1308928 2012-10-27 23:54:00 Had a look now, plod's right. No sideloading although being windows and depending on what people want to do I have no doubt someone will develop a way of sideloading... unless it's like WP in which case we are all screwed :D although M$ were very nice to the Chevron team.
