1308893 2012-10-25 22:45:00 It aint a myth, It is as real as night following day. Just woman's liberation propaganda. Chicks have got off murder and other charges because of it, if its it not real these chicks need hunting down and re sentenced and executed were necessary.

You do know that going from the general to the specific is problematic, right?

Just as men having stronger upper body strength on average doesn't mean that you'd be able to outlift an olympic women's weightlifter, the fact that this study-of-studies shows that women don't suffer from PMS doesn't mean that individual women don't suffer from problems related to it.

Additionally, while I haven't seen the study in detail, it only covers 'negative mood' as a measure of PMS, and doesn't cover other aspects, whether physical or psychological.

A friend of mine, for example, gets estrogen-related migraine. It doesn't affect mood, so it's not covered by this study. Similarly, estrogen-induced psychosis may not be covered.

Now, having said that, I'm gonna be the first to say that I'm pretty damn sceptical of PMS-induced killings. I'm on your side with seeking re-sentencing if they don't suffer from clinically demonstrated estrogen-related physical or psychological symptoms. We weren't in those courtrooms, so it's pretty hard to say.

Man, now I want to read this study. I hate trying to talk about things I haven't read in detail, but couldn't let that one pass without comment.

1308895 2012-10-25 23:36:00 Like men, women can be grumpy on occasion.

On a monthly basis, due to that....I've always thought it was bollocks.

I also think women who need time off every month is bollocks. Sure, I do know one or two who have had bad monthlies, so what, it's fixable, simply. It's an excuse....

1308896 2012-10-25 23:44:00 At my workplace somebody put up a poster for a talk on PMS. The poster was headed Do you suffer from PMS? Somebody wrote on it Yes, periodically BBCmicro (15761)

Pfft I could! Just put me up against Vallerie Adams any day .... Except she could probably throw *me* further than a shotput :p

In all seriousness though somebody should just ask the author of the studies husband if he believes it, I'd be willing to be otherwise ;)

Nah but really though, I knkow people who've been in so much pain with theirs that they would literally end up on the ground in the fetal position. Not cool stuff :-/

Would it drive her to commit murder though, I dunno. Maybe in that instance the persons husband was giving her grief about being pre-menstrual so she showed him she wasn't by killing him. There's one thing I learned fast when I was younger is you *never* ask a woman if they are. It's a lose-lose situation.

Lol. I reckon I'd let Valerie Adams throw me, if that's what she wanted to do. Yes ma'am! No argument here!

Inspired by Prefect's post, I went and looked up research and cases. A paper by an Aussie who looked at the cases where someone had been acquitted of murder with a claim of PMS - in one, the woman was a serial criminal offender, committed murder, claimed it was PMS, and got put on progesterone treatment by the judge. The judge let her off after a month or two on progesterone because it fixed whatever was happening with her. She then went four years without having a psychotic break.

Four days off the progesterone, however, and she committed another crime (not another murder). *boggle*
