1309053 2012-10-27 00:16:00 Recently I saw a report that 50% of kiwis use their phones to access the internet. That seems very high to me but who knows. In our family we have six phones (3 smart) and none of us access the net with them. The teenagers only text and play games, sometimes having fun with bluetooth. The people I worked with never went on the net either.

I then saw a study which said 70% of Americans use their phones only for texting and voice calls. This is despite 3G/4G and wireless being available to most people if they want it.

1309055 2012-10-27 01:20:00 I would use mine about 97% for voice calls and 2% for texting.

But my phone is over 6 years old!! so no smart phone for me.

1309056 2012-10-27 01:25:00 I think that statistic is because most people don't know how to turn the data off on their phone, therefore it charges them $1 every day creating this statistic that people are "using" the net.

I ONLY use the net now that telecom introduced their new $19 plan. Before that it was far far too expensive. Even then it's not a huge ammount.

1309057 2012-10-27 01:46:00 It's still expensive, and until the price comes down and plans have more reasonable caps (2-3GB is pathetic - I could get through that in a couple of weeks, easy), uptake will be slow.

I use my phone for email and browsing, tethering my wifi-only tablets, games (occasionally), texts and sometimes even phone calls...

I'm on a monthly plan, not pre-paid, and it's a 'business expense'.

1309058 2012-10-27 01:52:00 I used to have a Sony Ericsson Xperia, which I would only use for texts / calls, then the boss brought all the staff Galaxy S2's with a pretty sweet plan (1Gb mobile data, unlimited calling 2500 texts), so I dumped my personal phone and only use the work one. I use it for facebook, skype, wechat (IM program) and various other internet based apps, but only because I'm not paying for it! pine-o-cleen (2955)

Most I have used is about 100 mb. Just don't seem to get to use 3G when I'm out as wifi is usually available or I can't get any coverage when I need it
