2003-04-08 05:10:00 | I have a CyberDrive CW018D CD-R/RW, running Windows XP. Using EasyCD and Nero I can create CDs without any problems. Using the CD writing wizard in WinXP, it goes all the way through the process, and seems to finish correctly (no errors are reported), but I can't see any files on the CD. I would prefer that the wizard worked, since it is much simpler for doing backups. Any suggestions, folks? Thanks, Andrew Merton

It happens to me sometimes on some cd's and not on other's and also on some mediums (music or data) and not on others. Haven't really gone to the trouble of working out why so hopefully someone here will know answer. Just re-read your post and I remember someone here saying that it is not always a good idea to have to cd-writing programs installed at same time, maybe answer is that (I only have Nero which works fine except for problem outlined above) sam m |

2003-04-09 14:58:00 | The XP writer doesn't work, made a lot of coasters! Disable it thus:- TO DISABLE BUILT IN CD PROGRAM XP ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Before you install a proprietry burning program it is neccessary to disable the built in one which doesn't work too well. Start / Settings / control panel / Admin tools / Services Select " IMAPI CD Burning etc" Right click mouse / properties / Start up type, scroll to "Disabled" & select. Apply / OK Close control panel. For most conditions, back ups etc, "Burn Quick" is a very good simple program. Use "Nero" for disk copy and Audio disks. You can replace it with "Burn Quick" which works well. Nero also works well if the XP one is disabled.

2003-04-10 09:39:00 | Remember that multiple writer type programs don't alway like each other and may interfer with each other. I know there is a problem with Nero and EasyCD as I have seen it in action. Removed Nero and EasyCD worked again. | Big John (551) | |
2003-04-11 01:37:00 | Thanks for the suggestions, everyone - I downloaded a new firmware version from the CyberDrive website, but it only runs from DOS, and not from the WinXP command prompt . Gave up on that . In the end, I decided it was taking too much time , and bought a new CW099D (speed 52/48/52 as opposed to 8/4/12 anyway, and just marked down to $139) from Dick Smith . Installation took 5 minutes - burnt a CD from WinXP and read all the data back off it first time, on one of my cheap CD-Rs . My lesson? Sometimes it pays to spend the money up front . . . Now - anyone want to buy a CW018D CD-R/Rw drive? I have one going real cheap . . . B-)= Andrew Merton

2003-04-11 02:03:00 | Just a little question. I have Imation 700mb CDR (40X) and I wrote it at 52X, and there was an error (making the CD stuffed). Is this because I burnt it at a high speed? | JamesStewart (874) | |
