134210 2003-04-07 16:27:00 I have a PS2 5 button scroll mouse (cordless) and if I ever disconnect it, accidently or however, then weather i plug in any mouse or use the laptops touchpad, the mouse cursor is crazy, if i move it in X or Y it jumps all over the place, clicks a million different things, etc. It just goes through doing every possible thing. I HAVE to restart the computer to fix this. I am certin it is because it is a 5 button mouse and upon disconnecting it is using the 5 button driver for normal mouse, or something. Would this have something to do with the fact that I didn't install the proper driver that came with the mouse? I would only I am using XP and from the second I connected the mouse it worked fine, and also, when trying the driver once, it loaded a bunch of stuff (with ugly icons) onto my sys tray when windows starts, and gives me stuff i dont like, like little navigation appz that appear when I click one of the buttons.

Also, when I had a USB 5 button mouse, it did not do this. So is PS2 the problem? I have no spare USB ports.

Is there a really good generic mouse driver for WIN XP that supports 5 button mice, and when disconnecting them, won't go crazy. Is this also because i have a laptop, and have a touchpad thing? Oh and with USB mice, i can use the touchpad at the same time as mouse. With PS2, it disables the touchpad. Can I fix this?

Thanks. Oh and sometimes, with my cordless, it is good quality and gets good reviews, but sometimes it randomly "JUMPS" from one position to another, far away. This is annoying, I payed good money. Is this due to it being optical or cordless or having no good driver? What can I do to fix this?

Also, sometimes when playing games, my mouse acts like it was unplugged (maybe it went out of range or something) so it ends up going insane and i have to reboot. NOT GOOD. Specially at lan.

134211 2003-04-07 17:16:00 Answer 1: yes PS2 is the problem you are NEVER to unplug a PS2 mouse or plugin a PS2 mouse when a PC is on
however a PS2 keyboard is ok
it has the possibility of (rendering useless) your motherboard, i have a friend who did this on a P3 Gateway (luckily it was still under warranty)

Answer 2: because it is Lazer it uses light
the light reflect off the color mouse pad is you change the color it cant tell the difference and goes hay wire
use a mouse pad that is 1 color, the best is Black without a gloss
i'm using the back of a black stamp album (i knew the stamps would come in handy) or Bigbyte ones are ok and about $5

Answer 3: there is no logical explanation i have found for this problem (happens @ my work very often) not even our computer distributor knows
if you get a USB mouse you can pull it in and out when this happens have a look if you can just buy a PS2/USB adapters

134212 2003-04-07 17:54:00 Thanks. So there is no good 3rd party driver that will enchance it in some way, no driver made specificaly for optical mice that will keep is smooth, etc. I figured out the mouse only jumps if I move it fast. To fix that I have increased the sensitivity. It only takes a matter of minutes to get used to the increased sensitivity so its OK. Mark Veldhuizen (2570)
