2003-04-07 11:17:00 | Some of you may remember I posted a while ago with disconnection issues with my adsl modem - the modem kept losing sync with the adsl service and disconnecting... For everyone else: Whenever I connect to my jetstart service, I can connect OK, but within a few minutes the connection will die for a while and I will be unable to reconnect until the modem resynchronises with the service. I had thought this was a phone line or installation issue, but I have monitores the issue and found that the disconnections are directly linked with me loading apps or otherwise causing the hdd to do something... I was in the middle of updating my works website (60Mb...) and I decided to load winamp - that was enough to disconnect my adsl link... Even loading IE is sometimes enough, as is emptying the recycle bin sometimes, and burning a cd or copying large files will kill the connection for the duration of the copy... I have downloaded the latest drivers from the manufacturer. The modem is a dynalink ALH-181. I am running XP Pro SP1, and am with paradise.net Is there anything I can do that may correct the issue? Cheers, Craig.

2003-04-07 11:24:00 | Only issue I can tie up, is that I think thats an internal ADSL modem, which will be reliant on the driver software for it to operate, and would need a reasonable slice of the CPU time. How good are the specs of the host PC?

Alternatively there is something that is hogging the system - perhaps use a software diagnostic tool to check? Windows has a few of these built in. An anti-v check would also be a good idea. | Greg S (201) | ||
2003-04-07 14:13:00 | i had the EXACT same problem i figured it was my extension cord/so i went to buy a new one WRONG i figured it was my router/so i tampered WRONG i figured it was my provider or there connection/so i thought those help desk people arn't going to have a clew what i'm talking about (no offence pluto & others) Probably Right so i thought mmm... maybe since i have new neighbors they have ADSL maybe new ADSL clients use neighborhood resources/power i figured it was my extension cord/so removed the extension CORRECT my extension was too long/ it used to work perfectly until the person next to me go ADSL at first it went off then on at second it went off for a 300secs then on for a 60secs at third it went off now my ADSL Router is next to the ADSL in line and I have an RJ45 going to my PC

2003-04-07 14:17:00 | As strange as it may seem, telephone and modem cables do have a lot to do with the quality of an internet connection. I hope this is the answer for this one. | Greg S (201) | |
2003-04-07 14:24:00 | yea i think in my case that the Voltage or whatever was dulled and my ADSL router couldn't quite distinguish the difference try moving you ADSL modem or PC next to you first ADSL line in i did this and BAM ADSL light staid on
