| 134141 | 2003-04-07 09:45:00 | I'm just wondering if you can buy PCI Network Interface cards 1 RJ45 port that does upload only? If so, I'd need information to what brand/make, where I can buy it and what's the retail on those, as long as it's Cheaper than a normal NIC ($20+GST)and a 3Mtr Crossover cable ($6 inc GST) I'd consider buying it. If not then my suggested method of doing this is how I'll do it. Thanks in advance, KK |

They are made to comply with the standard. :D You might be able to find one which senses and configures for reverse connected cables. I think some hubs and switches are capable of that. I happen to think that such things are a Bad Idea. B-) There are enough things to go wrong without parts which spontaneously change sex. If you want a card which can't receive, which is the other interpretation of your request ... that's a definite no. If it can't receive, it can't transmit. :D The protocol requires communication both ways. You are best to stick with standards. If you need a crossover, get a crossover adapter. That lets you use only straight cables, and an adabptor is an obvious component. This helps to avoid confusion. |

| 134146 | 2003-04-08 06:40:00 | My wording is incorrect sorry I meant uplink port not upload. But GodFather knows what I'm talking about :) It's because I'm trying to connect an ADSL modem which connects onto the uplink port of a HUB, but I am doing it differently by just using a NIC that would require a crossover cable. If there's no such uplink NIC then with the cable I get with the ADSL modem I'll just patch that to save money. The setup of the computers is 2PC in a P2P connection via crossover cable. I basically have two options, the cheap way buy a NIC and patch the cable that comes with the modem to crossover. Or buy a HUB, 2 sets of rj45 connectors, cut the current crossover cable in half and patch them both to standard cables. |
