134134 2003-04-07 08:44:00 I previously had installed RedHat 8 (Last.. after Win2K, then 98).

Only Win98 broke.. I deleted the partition.. Repartitioned my drive, and Ive re-installed Win98.

Now, its gone and killed my RedHat Grub Boot Loader!

I had Grub, then when I chose my option Win2K/98 it'd take me to the Win2K boot loader with the option of Win98/2K

Ive got a boot diskette for RedHat 8, now Im sure that I can re-install the Boot Loader quickly and easily. Grub or Lilo, Im not too fussed. Im used to messing round with Grub's configs, but if I have to I'll go LILO.

Can anybody help me get it back without re-setting up Linux?

The easiest way would probably be to stick your redhat cd back in. Redhat most likely has a repair option which would allow you to reinstall the boot loader.

When triple loading go Win98 then Win 2000 then Linux.
Win 98 does not recognize another OS so you stuff your boot loader.

134137 2003-04-07 22:04:00 I haven't used GRUB as yet. But the above is easy to fix with LILO. Use your boot floppy disk to load Linux, check your /etc/lilo.conf file for correctness, then issue the command /sbin/lilo to re-write the boot loader in the MBR.

Trouble is that you don't sound like you have installed LILO so the above files may not exist? However the process would be similar for GRUB

134138 2003-04-07 22:07:00 Actually, Win98 added itself to the Win2K Boot Loader and set itself as default (I fixed that quick..cheecky thing!).
What happens is it normally loads the Grub Boot Loader, then the Win2K, but the Grub has gone?

134139 2003-04-07 22:09:00 Thanks, I'll have a look into it :-)

And repair.. Im sure there's an option... maybe I just skipped past it accidentally ;-)

134140 2003-04-08 05:22:00 Microsoft will always take over the boot sector. They're like that. They have no respect for other systems. Graham L (2)
