134505 2003-04-09 05:21:00 HI,I have Win98SE with IE6 & OE6.
I am receiving some e-mails where some images only appear as a white box with a red + in it.Also when I select new images I have found & put them into an e-mail the same thing happens-not all-but some.Any ideas ? cheers rdee

134506 2003-04-09 06:05:00 the read X means that the system cnt display the image. it maybe that the web site is a bit broken or that the format is wrong or one of many other things.

if i remember right you will find that IE cant/wont display GIF images.

134507 2003-04-09 06:11:00 Hi rdee

Some types of emails with multiple images embedded seem to require an internet connection when the email first opened so that the images can download fully. These are often newsletter style emails. Are you disconnecting before opening up the email? Otherwise the images can appear as red X's.

How are you inserting new images into your emails? If the problem is intermittent, is it when you use a different method eg. inserting instead of attaching?

134508 2003-04-09 06:58:00 The emails that require a connection to the net to be present are downloading the images from a server somewhere.. In other words they are not part of the email, but are loading in much the same way that images on a webpage do.

Of course if you read these offline, there will be "red Xs" as the images cannot load.

I'm not sure if there is a setting with OE that stops these from loading. There is a setting in Kmail "allow mails to load external references from the net" which i untick as i think this is a tool that spammers will use to count if you got the mail. I am yet to receive mail that uses "external references" that is not spam.
