134485 2003-04-09 02:57:00 Is this possible? I would assume you couldn't since they both may interfere with each others frequency but this may not be the case.

Any relevant information around that can answer this?

I may go ahead and try it to see for myself, both modems would have different ISP accounts.

The situation I have is that I've got 3 computers on a network and another computer network capable but is about 60metres away from the rest of the PCs and I'm not looking into buying a 60metre network cable since it's only temporary. I currently transport my modem to and from the one computer to the networked computers. If I had two ADSL modems it would eliminate the need of transporting the modem. You maybe thinking it's cheaper to go with the network cable but since it's temporary and I could yet again move, this place would require their own modem anyway if I leave.

134486 2003-04-09 03:08:00 I think I can say IT WON'T WORK. Apart from the fact that they would interfere with each others signals (to the point of neither working), the exchange end can be connected to only one ISP.

Youi might be able to have a dialup modem sharing the line with the ADSL. That at least has a chance of working. :D

134487 2003-04-09 03:49:00 I am positive the exchange end can be connected to any ISP, the account that it connects through manages the cap limit (it's all software controlled). As for connecting 1 ISP say Paradise but you have two different accounts may not work.

I've given up on ISP's saying that you can and can't do this when I've attempted at doing it and it's worked. That now I ask the community if they have tried it since they can give better answers than the ISP. I'm not sure how many people would have tried connecting two DSL modems on one line but I was hoping I'd hear from someone. Or else I may just attempt it myself and see how things go. I'll post back results too so more people will know if they can or can't.

134488 2003-04-09 03:49:00 Right Graham, dial up definitely works together with ADSL, I tried that before my dial-up account expired. Terry Porritt (14)
134489 2003-04-09 03:54:00 I thought that DSL worked by using the Wires in the phone line that the telephone didnt?

If that's the case, and a filter simply makes the phones only use a Set half of the wires in the Phone Line, then can another filter not be used to make the second DSL use the other half of the line?

Or is ignorance bliss, and Im being euphoric?

134490 2003-04-09 03:59:00 Chilling... DSL uses higher frequencies than the phone line not different wires. It's like TV how they seperate the channels between VHF and UHF, they are just on different frequencies. Filters eliminate the phone lines ever going into the higher frequencies as to avoid clashing with the internet.

Hopefully that clears that up, but I may have answered my own question now.

134491 2003-04-09 04:04:00 Graham is right about the dialup being able to be used but in conjunction with DSL (I posted ages ago about this) It's not possible, meaning you can't use your dialup and DSL to make downloading faster which is what I was attempting to do in that post. However you can use two dialup modems on two different phone lines in conjunction (it's called Multilinking). ISP's say they don't support it but an actual fact some do but it results in an excess charge on your account.

Any phone device can be used on a DSL enabled line as long as it's filtered correctly.

134492 2003-04-09 05:21:00 Only one phone line ?:|

Why not use an adsl router and network the computers? Sure you will have to stick to one ISP and make some arrangement for sharing costs, but you would still have had to do that anyway if it had been technically possible to put two modems on one line.

At least it will work and work well. We have up to three computers on line at once and I hardly notice any difference in speed.

Cheers

134493 2003-04-17 00:40:00 Just an update on this.

I tested two ADSL modems off one line, two different accounts and it was no go, one modem connected the other continued with handshaking but just continued with handshaking without connecting. So that's explained my answer of trying to run two modems off the one.
