| 134427 | 2003-04-08 23:28:00 | This a is a continuing of the thread here: pressf1.pcworld.co.nz Ive gone and setup XOSL (Man its nice!) and I can successfully boot into Win2K/98 without a worry, BUT... Not Redhat 8! I have my boot floppy which is all dandy, and an 8 meg extended partition I can use to make a Boot Drive or whatever, but basically, I wanna be able to boot from my HDD and not off the Floppy every time. I try telling XOSL to boot from my Linux partition mounted at /boot, but not luck, and same goes for / (I have 3 partitions, a 94 meg /boot, and 2.5 gig / and a 110 meg SWAP partition). So I tried making that 8 meg extended partition on my Primary HDD into a FAT drive, and copying the floppy across, then specifying that partition to be booted from, but still nothing! What do I have to do with the floppy to make it boot on the HDD? Thanks Chilling_Silence |

| 134428 | 2003-04-09 00:28:00 | I agree that XOSL is great - but it doesn't completely replace LILO or GRUB which you still need to boot Linux. If you place XOSL in the MBR, LILO or GRUB must exist elsewhere - either in / or in /boot usually. So you need to install one of the Linux bootloaders away from the MBR. |
