134401 2003-04-08 15:01:00 Hi all. I had Quick Time 6 and I downloaded Quick Time Pro 6 (good old Kazaalite) and just plain Shift+Delete the Quick Time Folder. I go to install the new Quick Time but it says "New Version found, please unisntall previous version if you wish to continue. I go to "Add or Remove Programs" but an error comes up saying "Value creation failed " at line 472. I have had this happen before when I installed Windows XP Service Pack 1 (have since reformatted). Any ideas? JamesStewart (874)
134402 2003-04-08 17:49:00 James Stewart (From Auckland),

Did you also download Windows XP from Kazaa Lite, this may be the problem. And can you sell me Quick Time Pro on a CDR for 50 cents?

134403 2003-04-08 17:54:00 Anyway, what I would do, is run Norton Utilities "Win Doctor". That should get rid of all the DLL's and shortcuts and registry links that point to the program that no longer exists.

You can buy it at DSE. The version on Kazaa has a virus.

134404 2003-04-08 19:21:00 Normalcy I don't look at "Didn't Properly Uninstall! Please Help." because I never know if I can help or not. :)

I hope my reply might help others from getting confused

134405 2003-04-09 01:29:00 Well people, I can say my version of Windows XP Pro is perfectly legal (we have the reseat in the box) ok? But this dosn't help me! JamesStewart (874)
134406 2003-04-09 01:47:00 Oh dear... one of the problems with "not 100% legit" software that you download via any P2P is that you may end up in sticky situations such as how you have described.

Go do what Mark V has suggested. Perhaps reinstalling your original version (assuming it IS legit) and uninstalling might be of some help? Otherwise the Norton Win Doctor thing might help.

Lo.

PS. If you are running XP, why not use the System Restore function to get you back before you installed the software?

134407 2003-04-09 02:18:00 because i am dumb enough to not do many system restores! Plus, people, I am telling you know, I paid YES PAID for XP ok? I didn't download it! I only have a dial up so it would have taken days. And I do not what to restall XP as I am getting sick and tired of doing that. (Have refprmatted about 6 times in the last 2 months). 134408 2003-04-09 03:26:00 Perhaps a trial version of Norton Systemworks, and let it do a system scan, repair for you?? Don't know if they have a trial version though... Checked out their website?

I think the suggestion was that you reinstall Quicktime 6 then try to uninstall.

BTW, if you have had to reformat & reinstall 6 times in the last two months you are certainly not practising safe computing. You need to take a serious look at your downloads and/or security practices, and if you decide that you want to keep on playing the same game, invest in a disk imaging program such as Ghost, set up your computer the way you want it, record an image then play away. You will be able to restore your OS, favourite programs & settings in less than 30 minutes.

I had a failed install on my son's computer at the weekend, the program wouldn't run and I couldn't uninstall it. Twenty minutes later his OS & programs were back exactly as they were before in put in the CD and clicked "Install."

Believe me (and plenty of others on F1) it is well worth it.

Cheers
