134366 2003-04-08 08:59:00 My connection to my ISP is working, BUT I cant surf or recieve/send email.

Error message = DNS error, page not available/try again later

How can that be if I can connect to my ISP?

Running Windows ME, Internet Explorer 5.
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards Todd

134367 2003-04-08 09:06:00 Do you have zone alarm and have previously denied access for your email? wotz (335)
134368 2003-04-08 10:06:00 Do you have any firewall at all, also some antivirus programs with or without firewalls can block access.
Check thios thread Here (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz)

134369 2003-04-08 21:35:00 Connect to the net then open a DOS command window.
Then type in

ping www.pressf1.co.nz

and see if you get a response

Also try

ping 210.48.100.45

and see if you get a response.

You should at least get a response from pinging the IP address.
If so your DNS settings may be wrong or need to remove Dial-Up networkind and reinstall.
Let us know how you get on.

134370 2003-04-09 02:25:00 Ohh I get this problem a lot! When I reboot and try connecting again it's fine, but I can't get it sorted any other way.... does that work for you?

When I did the ping thing I got no reply at all, very frustrating to be connected to the net but unable to do a thing.

I also had this problem in the past when I installed internet connection sharing, from then on I could only connect if ICS was turned OFF. Check that out if you use ICS.

Hope you manage to get an answer, Prod, would be nice I could sort my computer out too!

134372 2003-04-10 10:31:00 Had precisely this problem last week, despite having sygate firewall disabled. When I uninstalled it completely, no more problem. Captn Andy (3405)
134373 2003-04-10 20:40:00 I had this problem a while ago and I think it was a running task called 'netserv' (or net something anyway). I tried disabling and uninstalling ZA a few times and goofed around with just about everything, I could connect if I rebooted, but what a hassle! all is sweet now thankfully
running XPh and IE6.

hope that's of some help to someone

134374 2003-04-10 20:50:00 If any of the following are installed they will prevent internet access.

Go to Add/Remove programs in the control panel.

If you find New.Net, New Net Domains, The New Net, or Save Now listed there, remove it.

134375 2003-05-19 06:21:00 Thank you all for your help. I tried everything suggested with no luck so I copied my entire hard drive to a second older one I have installed and booted up off that, and you beauty she worked. Surfing again, oh how I missed it. However that hard drive will only let my monitor display a resolution of 600*480, which is chunky and ugly. I have tried changing it but it keeps reverting back to 600*480. I have the correct driver installed. The question is why does the monitor work perfectly when I booted up off the original hard drive, but is real ugly on the second drive if all I did was a straight copy from one drive to the other?
Your help would be appreciated.
Cheers Prod.
