134700 2003-04-09 22:52:00 Here is an Interesting one

I have a Ps2 keyboard port that no longer works no matter what keyboard is attached.

No keyboard appears in the device manager so I ran "add new hardware" and set one up.

But It is conflicting with another device. It seems to be conflicting with the mouse.

The mouse is using the I/O range that the keyboard wants 0060-0060 and 0064-0064

I checked on other computers and their mice don't have I/o ranges assigned at all

The keyboard is dead right from boot, but does not give any keyboard errors. It might be sent not to halt on keyboard errors on the bios but with out a Keyboard I can't hit delete and have a look.

I thinking a USB keyboard will solve this problem but any other ideas would be great.

Thanks

134702 2003-04-10 06:12:00 Isn't it actually the mouse port which is the problem? If it's grabbing the keyboards I/O ports, the keyboard can't work. The keyboard controller is actually a computer. It's a lot more sophistaicated than a mouse interface. Graham L (2)
