Check out the games website for info as well.

134836 2003-04-10 08:05:00 Game servers are created using the game's software, not the OS. If the game can run on the OS that you are using then it can be used to host for the game too. What game are you wanting to host? Kame (312)
134837 2003-04-10 08:15:00 In all honesty, Id say host with Win2K Pro, as that's what we use at the Cyber Cafe in Te Atatu.

As for games, 2K Pro uses less system resources generally than Windows XP, and seeing as XP is aimed more at the home-user/end-user market... 2K Id like to say more at the Corporate Market, with MS stating that they believed itt would beat WinME in being a Gaming OS with the release of SP2!

134838 2003-04-10 08:24:00 Depending on the game, I'd run a Linux's Game Server if possible which uses far less resources than Win2k/XP and also performance is also better. Kame (312)
134839 2003-04-10 08:31:00 Hmmm... Good point.. Well, Id do that if it was a slightly under-powered server. Otherwise, Windows would be fine if you're comfortable with it.

Otherwise, if you're wanting to learn Linux, then now would be a good chance. Most programs offer FREE dedicated server software for Both OS's, but some only offer Linux software from what I understand.
