| 134724 | 2003-04-10 00:20:00 | Hi Team My children don't like having their email coming in on my computer any more (citing privacy *sigh*) and the problems with forwarding between ISPs meant that they couldn't send from their computers as their addresses were on Freenet and our ISP is Xtra. We are on Jetstream and their net access is via a hub and ADSL router. I have overcome the forwarding issue by setting them up with alias addresses on Xtra, and now they can send emails at will from their own computers, but according to Xtra their emails will still get downloaded to my computer when I download mine. To get around this I have been trying to set up an email rule that will send their mail direct to a separate folder but I have encountered a problem that i can't seem to find my way around. Firstly, I cannot find a way to specify and differentiate the name to go in the To: box. All the wizard seems to offer is sorting to a folder when "My Name" is in the To: box. I can't find a way to use the alias names as sort criteria. Secondly, can I set up an intranet email system that will forward mail to the other computers on the network (provided they are logged on of course) or will this need different software? I do not wish to set up a Child account or a Hosted mailbox as these incur additional costs. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

One way around it is to open accounts for your children. They then could pop their own accounts. If you had the accounts on the cheapest rate possible they would only have to logon long enough to gather the email. For web surfing they could carry on piggy backing your account. Just a thought |

They can even have the addy as "no.1_son@orcon.net.nz and no.1_daughter@orcon.net.nz. After that, set up their accounts in Outlook Express (or whatever they use) and you are home and hosed. All their mail will obediently file itself into their accounts and their accounts only. Email is also accessible from the web as well for when the sprogs travel! But wait! there's more! Also comes with 10MB free webspace as well. Is that good or what? I guarantee that said sprogs will demonstrate their complete adoration for you for a whole 10 minutes. :-) PS Click on Join at Orcon's home page and just follow the instructions. Do not sign up for paid stuff -- the email account is free. No ads or banners either. :-) |

We have Freenet for travel (though it wouldn't work in Huntly:() but from home it can only be used via dial up as Xtra won't relay. Bro Billy 8-{) :x |

Will have to wait to get it from the horse's mouth itself though, before that can be confirmed . :-) |

| 134729 | 2003-04-10 07:07:00 | Hi, I use outlook express. I have 'main' account and 5 aliases. When I send email myself it has 'main' account as the 'from' address. If my girls send email then they click on 'create mail' then click on 'from' and select their name so their name is displayed as the 'from' person. To acheive this I created all the aliases account within outlook express. I then open accounts box, highlight aliases / properties. Then untick 'include this account when receiving mail or synchronizing'. By doing this whenever outlook express is open it will download from the 'main' account, also aliases, and with email rules set separate to separate folders. Mission accomplished. Haven't worked out how to acheive all this with Outlook but as I am the only one using that program it is less of a problem. Sam m |
