135271 2003-04-13 09:36:00 I use Smoothwall on a 486DX4 100 with 16MB ram and a 520MB hard disk... works well. Even upgraded from 0.9 to 1.0 without reconnecting a monitor i.e. worked via the web browser interface. Dolby Digital (160)
135272 2003-04-13 09:54:00 Would smoothwall work on a 386 anyone? I'm keen to try it out on one I have. Started a thread on it.. PoWa (203)
135273 2003-04-14 01:35:00 Can anyone help Powa with his question??

Secondly, I downloaded the iso file, and burnt it to disc. Of course it didn't boot up in the old pc .... I have to create a disc from the image file duh (I guess its like unzipping a zipped file, but a different process).

So, here's my question. How can I open up the .iso file and burn the contents to disc? I use HP Record Now, which doesn't have write from image facility. I also have Clone CD, but the image files it produces are a different extension, therefore I can't select the iso to burn.

Is there a way of unpacking an image file to hard drive, then selecting all of the resulting files and copying these to disc in the normal manner?

Thanks

135274 2003-04-14 01:47:00 To burn the iso I'd recommend getting a trial of Nero Burning ROM.

Or you could get Daemon Tools and mount the ISO then use the "copy CD" option in another burning program.

135275 2003-04-14 02:13:00 IsoBuster (free) can extract files from an iso. I think you could just extract them to a folder, then burn the contents onto a cd.

However I think I know what might be the problem. You need to make the cd bootable...they probably have the boot files included in the iso, however so it wouldn't matter. They are usually named boot.cat and boot.bin. See if there are any files in the iso that have .bin or .cat extensions, if there are then just burn everything onto a cd.

Yea definitely invest in some good cd writing software. I reckon Easy Cd Creator 5 -> 6 are the best. Easy, logical and has every feature you might need.

To add to all the suggestions so far, a colleague uses Red Hat as in www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Firewall-HOWTO.html
