2003-04-13 23:33:00 | Hi folks. My mate (effie c) has rung me with a problem. He was using his computer when suddenly it went into safe mode and he cannot get out of it. He switched off and when restarting held down the F8 key and he then said it shows that "normal" is highlighted. He pressed enter, and it immediately starts up again in safe mode and he cannot get out of it. Can anyone help with advice please. His OS is 98SE Thanks Smithie

2003-04-14 00:46:00 | Hi every one- especially smithie38 - I of all people have been caught exactly like this a year ago - once again my years stopped me remembering - the answer is so simple- while using the net I went into safe mode quite spontaneously and could not get out of it - OF COURSE the settings in my computer /etc had slipped back to the minimum - thereby appearing to be in safe mode when it was not. now I am a happy ( if not embarressed ) chappie Thank you smithie 38 - I know you are younger than me, so don't go off your brains like me effie c

2003-04-14 01:08:00 | Just to clarify what settings reverted to default, it is the display settings that drop back to 640 X 480, which produces the standard safe mode appearance but without the words "safe mode" in the four corners of the screen. Cheers Billy 8-{)

2003-04-14 05:31:00 | Hi kiwibeat - now that might be of help- I am damn sure I had no cause to be near the settings that caused this - I actually was trying to send an e mail chess game to my hotmail account so as to show my grandaughters how to open their/our games on their hotmail addresses and as I tried to "send" - it went off Can you tell me where to find and what to install the drivers- I have Win 98SE , effie c

2003-04-14 08:50:00 | Hi kiwibeat, I went ito that site- it does not appear to give me any later drivers - unless I am proving once again I am senile- can you confirm before I download that this will do just that and nothing else. re chess - Smithie38 and 35 others play using either postcardchess.com or "that game" which when sent to a new player will automatically place a"knight"icon on the desktop, and that will open anybody elses game from then on I enjoy chess- tho I get beaten more than I win- the game stays "operable"offline( postcard chess has to be liveand online)you can move- check and redo offline. I now play antmanns whom I have never seen but we have had many battles- if you want to trust me with your e mail address perhaps I can initiate a game with you- I know this could be a breach of etiquette- up to you effie c

2003-04-14 10:26:00 | Hi effie c . The site you were directed to is the download for the program to tell you what video chipset you have . Its not a site for drivers, as until we know what video card/chipset is in your PC, we cannot help you with locating the drivers .
