135513 2003-04-13 13:55:00 I was thinking about upgrading my computer but then I thought it is about time for a full make over. I am thinking about buy a brand new computer (custom built of course!!) from Ascent.co.nz and am most proberly thinking of selling the old one.

Here is exactly what is inside in now:

Mother Baord: This is the only thing I do not know! Has 2 X USB, 4X AGP, 2 X Com ports, 1 X Serail Port, 2 X PS/2 (Keyboard and mouse).
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2100+
Memory: 256mb's DDR
Hard Drive: 80GB Hard Drive
Floopy Drive: Panasonic 3.5"
CD Drive: A-Open 40X
CD Writer: A-Open 52/48/52
Video : NVIDIA Riva TNT2/TNT PRO 2
Sound : Aureal (Diamand Media) Vortex 8830 (WMD)
Wireless Lan: Cisco 350 Series PCI lan adaptor
Ethernet: 100mbs (conncetion speed) ethernet card (DSE)
Modem: 56kb modem
SPEAKERS : Cambridge Sound Works speakers. I dont know the numbers but the system with four speakers and that bassie!!! sub. (Was make for Vortex sound cards).

I am wondering if I would be able to get $2000 (no less) for this computer. I am not trying to sell it on here, just asking is it worth that? I am keeping the monitor, keyboard, mouse.

BUT if you think it is worth more, please state!

Thanks

James

P.S: The system comes with Windows XP PRO, Norton 2002 (Internet and Virus) Partioned hard drive (for better secuirty), Office XP Small Business.

135516 2003-04-13 18:09:00 Very simliar to my machine. It cost me less than $2000 to build it. I estimate that I would not get much more than $1000 if I sold it.
I would suggest you double your ram and keep it...Jack

135517 2003-04-13 20:19:00 O Dear...

Here's the Sad news: A computer is NOT an valuable long term investment!
You buy it, use it, enjoy it and know that in 6 months its worth half what you paid for it.

For $2000 i could buy/make a new system with 17" LCD screen & slightly better specs than that.

135518 2003-04-13 20:36:00 Ummm, what is actually WRONG with the computer that you have now??? :O ?:|

I would have thought it would be more than sufficient for whatever you wanted to throw at it?? What do you do that needs a newer (better?) one?

Like the others have said, put some more RAM in and you might be happier with what you have got.

135519 2003-04-13 22:27:00 Like the other I would suggest adding more RAM. I would also upgrage the Video card and possible look at changing the CD drive to a DVD.

As far as paying 2k for the system - NO Way.

135520 2003-04-14 01:12:00 Well, I am sick and tired of having a **** graphics card and the motherbaord is only 4 X AGP, so i need a new mother baord (8 X AGP), new sound card, wanted new ram. See, the list is getting big so it is just worth me totally redoin my computer.

Thanks

James

135521 2003-04-14 02:32:00 Like some people have already mentioned.... It really isn't worth anything more than $1000. You have to always face the fact that the day after you start using the computer, it will depreciate in the background, "unable to be seen".

If you're truly (and genuinely) interested, I may have a few friends who might want to buy it, *I'd imagine for about $1000 only with just the "box*

Hope it helps, good luck selling....:D

135522 2003-04-14 02:44:00 Worth About $1000 to $1300 max ; PCs are very bad investments yours is powerful enough foer most purposes just increase the RAM and change the graphics card 8x AGP isnt that much faster if you are into music upgrade the sound card and add a dvd ccdrom if you are into movies best upgrade is a decent monitor 19" upwards , plus possibly a bigger HDD later on if you store a lot of data , kiwibeat (304)
