135414 2003-04-13 11:03:00 Hey Guys, stop, listen to the advice here about the coating on monitor screens..

The advice from some to use..Meths..CD cleaner..Window Cleaner.. is not recommended.

The advice for my Viewsonic monitor, states NOT to use any alcohol or ammonia based cleaners on the screen.

So then, meths, CD cleaner, Window cleaner are out.

But then, what to use. Not much choice. Like another poster here I now use water with just a drop of detergent.. Seems to work fine on the monitor now 3 years old..

135415 2003-04-13 11:13:00 baby wipes? sc0ut (2899)

No, they will likely contain lanolin, which will grease the screen .

Bazza etc are quite correct, that later model monitors have a film which reduces reflections and therefore increases the viewability .

If you destroy any of it, you would need to strip it all off .

Damp cloth with an minute amount (drop) of detergent should be all thats needed .

For LCD I use a 3M product formulated for them .

135417 2003-04-13 20:58:00 NEVER SPRAY THE SCREEN OF A MONITOR OR TELEVISION AND LET THE LIQUID DRIP DOWN THE SCREEN TO THE INSIDE,

IT WILL MAKE THE USER CONTROLS RUST,

ALWAYS SPRAY A CLOTH AND RUB THE CLOTH OVER A SCREEN.

135418 2003-04-13 21:10:00 Hey E.ric.....

I used liquid to clean the screen on my old laptop once, some liquid went down the crack at the bottom, and the screen went all grey like there was no power!

Fortunitly i found someone i could give it to so i didn't have to waste good $$ on a rubbish bag for the lappy.

135420 2003-04-14 08:13:00 What about cloth you buy at the optometrist to clean glasses and sunglasses. they are dry and can take out streaks and grease and prints and what not.... they are also antistatic.
