135357 2003-04-13 03:42:00 I use DVD-Region Free from DVDIdle.com, and cant complain - Its great an well worth the $40 or whatever it costs! Chilling_Silence (9)
135358 2003-04-13 04:41:00 most region killer progs (except the one chill mentioned) only work with rpc1 dvd drives as the crack the region codeing in the dvd software. most drives are rpc2 which means you have to convert it to rpc1 (commanly a hacked firmware or sometimes a simple jumber change). failure to do so normally results in a region locked drive. if that happens then the program chill mentioned is proberly one of the few that can bypass the dvd drive region codeing. tweak'e (174)

Thanks... (Tweak'e was kind enough to get me sorted when I got a DVD-ROM drive :-))

In all honesty, I tried a prog called sumthing like DVD-Region Killer, and it just aint worth it....

DVD-Region Free is so easy to use, I wouldnt recommend any other!

A little OT here - How does DVD's in Linux work.. say with Xine?
It still complies with Region settings doesnt it?

135362 2003-04-14 19:56:00 from my experience those region killers only work on the software not the the actual drive! If you get the drive locked you must download a firmware patcher and appropriate firmware (firmware is basically like the drives built in OS). i've got an el cheapo samsung which is now completely region free thanks to a firmware patch.....wooooooooooot! =) NoDDyBoT (3582)
