| 135864 | 2003-04-15 02:18:00 | hi my online speed under properties cofigure for my modem somehow changed to 1200 so i couldnt download anything ive put it to 115200 and it works im sure ive read somewhere that this is the maximium seting for a normal on line 56kb modem (not dsl) type connection is this right or should i run it higher (im running win xp on smartlink dial up modem ) | petemit (1134) | ||
| 135865 | 2003-04-15 03:28:00 | It's just that this was the highest rate available with the original IBM PC design. 115200/1 --> 115200. Of course the first IBM PCs couldn't get that high ... 9600 was considered very fast, and a PC or XT was struggling to get characters at that rate. A 56k modem will probably not need any faster ... and that gives the OS a chance to keep up.:D 2400 is a [i]bit[/b] extreme though. ;-) |
