They have a vinyl record like surface on top.

135705 2003-04-15 09:47:00 I note how many favourable references there are to the Warehouse Transonics. Most references seem to be re writable but do the re-writable ones work just as well for the Transonics and other brands - ie is there consistency in that if the brand is good in one respect is it also good in the other ??

135706 2003-04-15 10:09:00 Transonic gets a few ticks in this thread, but who actually makes them ?
The several major factories turn out quite a variety of labels ...and of differing quality, it seems .

135708 2003-04-15 11:54:00 For those interested I got these for some brands I have:

Melody:
Disk sub type: Medium Type A, low Beta category (A-) (2)
Disk type: Short strategy type (Phthalocyanine or similar)
Manufacturer: CMC Magnetics Corporation

Mitsubishi:
Disk sub type: Medium Type A, high Beta category (A+) (3)
Disk type: Long strategy type (Cyanine, AZO or similar)
Manufacturer: Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation

Harvey Norman:
Disk type: Short strategy type (Phthalocyanine or similar)
Manufacturer: GIGASTORAGE CORPORATION

Verbatim:
Disk type: Long strategy type (Cyanine, AZO or similar)
Manufacturer: Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation

I assume the strategy type is how long they should last.
