135727 2003-04-14 09:58:00 After seeing a few references to CloneCD4,I've installed it.
A couple of queries. It mentions in the help notes"Copies created with CloneCD cannot be copied with other CD replication software. Only CloneCD can copy these CDs again." That means that Nero, etc can't copy the copies made through this program, right?
If that is so,then why bother with this program? Is it because it's the best for recovering or copying damaged CD's?
Also, what is the "Virtual Drive" for? Is it needed to play any audio files that have been saved to hard drive using CCD4? Unlike Cdex ,etc ,ripped files which can be played by Winamp and so on? Just trying to figure out how things work! Any help appreciated.

135728 2003-04-14 10:09:00 You probably don't want VirtualDrive. All it does is create CD drives, which are virtual, and you can "mount" (load) a CD image to these drives. Supposedly much faster than reading off a CD, though I never noticed a difference between installing UT off the CD and off a mounted image.
I've never heard of this thing where only CloneCD can create copies of CDs written using CloneCD. There is no logical reason I can think of for how they would do this.
CloneCD is [arguably] the best program for making one-to-one copies of CDs, though this can depend on your CD drives and what technologies they support.

If you make a clone of a CD with CloneCD, it creates a 1:1 copy of whatever CD you have put in. This means, that you will have cloned a CD with the original copy protection also on it. Therefore, you can only use CloneCD (or similar program) to create a back-up of a cloned disc.

CloneCD has fallen behind in terms of its abilities to defeat the newer copy protections (newer versions of Safedisc, Securom, etc). The new kid on the block which is sweeping all before it, HAS to be Alcohol 120% (http://www.alcohol-software.com/).

Hope this has been of help.

135730 2003-04-14 11:28:00 Thanks,agent and Lohsing.
For ordinary audio cd's then,if I use CCD,the copy can be copied using Nero,Roxio, etc? It's just that I've had one audio cd stop copying, right at the end of course!!! Used Cdex to transfer it to my hard drive, which worked, but with a bit of stuttering on the copy. So I wondered if CCD would do a better job. :-)

135731 2003-04-15 11:44:00 Well, have tried copying the clone copy. Both with Roxio and Nero, and both came out OK.That's an audio cd. Interesting.
Might have a look at the Alcohol one,Lohsing. Thanks once again.

135732 2003-04-15 12:01:00 I think they are refering to the .ccd format of the images it creates.

All it means is, if you make an image of a CD with clonecd, you will have to use clonecd to burn it.
