136099 2003-04-16 00:09:00 Over the last day or two I have suddenly been getting thrown off the internet, sometimes several times within five or ten minutes. The Girl is in the MSN chatrooms on the other networked computer and she is claiming that someone in the chatroom is using a script to throw her (and all the other members) off.

I was pretty sceptical about this because I am refusing Kerio firewall connection requests when they pop up but now I am not so sure. It is quite a coincidence so I am wondering how they are able to do it from inside the chatroom and bypass my firewall?

Needless to say she is staying out of the chatroom for now until this idiot finds someone else to annoy. X-(

136101 2003-04-16 00:19:00 Sorry, should have provided more info .

Am on dial-up, not using Xtra . Had been getting completely disconnected from internet, not from chatroom . The Girl reckons everyone else was suffering the same fate as this kid wanted them all to go into his chatroom . .

Is not happening now since she is staying out but I want to know how it was done and why my firewall could not prevent it .

136102 2003-04-16 00:22:00 A friend of mine said that people used to disconnect him by pinging him. I don't know if this is possible. somebody (208)
136103 2003-04-16 00:40:00 Are you running Kerio on the other computer as well. In my experience with ICS it seems as if the client computer bypasses the firewall running on the host computer.

As for a script to kick them off. Most likely one to kick them from the chatroom I'm thinking.

BTW, what happened to the hosts entry?

136104 2003-04-16 00:41:00 There use to be a flaw in Rockwell (I think) chipset modems that did allow an "attacker" to knock your modem offline.
This was soon corrected with newer modems and any that had the flawed chipset could enter a modem string to prevent it from happening.

Pinging people offline is an old trick but these days most firewalls should prevent this sort of attack unless the attacker is using a fairly decent connection to attack you with.

I think your right about that -=JM=- :) I know in MSN chat there is a button where you can press to kick some one or every one out :D
