| 136089 | 2003-04-15 23:51:00 | Hello everybody, This is the second time that this has happened, we have a PC company computer (about 1 1/2 yrs old). The CD-RW drive isn't responding, there is no icon in windows explorer, my computer etc. and when the computer loads up, it can detect my HD & Floppy, but not the CDRW drive. As this is our only cd drive, we can't use cds without it. The first time this happened, we sent the pc back because it could play audio cds, with the buttons on the drive, but not data cds. After that, it worked fine for a while, but now it isn't even recognised. There is also no icon in device manager. We can't even open the tray to put discs in or take them out. I have checked the power cable and the IDE cable and everything seems OK. Any ideas? your help would be greatly appreciated Jase |

| 136090 | 2003-04-16 00:10:00 | If it's still under warranty, send it back. Could someone have swapped the jumpers around? (eg made it Master instead of Slave, or whatever?) Try swapping the IDE cable with another one, and try another power plug. May not help, but it's worth a try. I'm guessing that your CD RW drive is well and truely dead. If you do need to retrieve a CD out of it, stick a straightened paperclip into the hold just on the outside of the CD Tray (From the front), and it should make your CD drive open. I'm also curious... does the LED on the front of the CD RW Drive come on when you boot up your computer? |

| 136094 | 2003-04-16 00:58:00 | I took out the faulty drive and put in another CDROM drive, the new drive worked fine. Therefore it cant be the power connection and must be something wrong with the actual drive. The warranty ran out at Feb this year so I don't think that ill be getting a new one for free. | jasezone (1567) | ||

| 136097 | 2003-04-16 01:59:00 | there has been some discussion on warranty's and the consumer act on this forum (do a search maybe), even if the warranty has expired you may be covered... A cd should last longer than 2 years, so try it on with the PC Comp..if you get no where there, go higher, you should be able to get a replacement at their expense... Trev |
