| 136539 | 2003-04-17 12:28:00 | Hi, I have a rather complicated set up to explain so please bear with me . I have a JetStart connection, shared out between three computers by a 10/100 switch hub connected to a Dynalink RTA-210 router . Connected to one of these desktop computers is a Dick Smiths WLAN USB adaptor (XH1153) . I also have a laptop, which has a Dick Smiths PCMIA WLAN card installed . On the desktop and the laptop I have bridged the wired and wireless connections so that I can access resources on my wired network from the laptop . My problem is thus: Every now and then, my laptop loses its connection to the router, whic h on my network i assigned the ip 192 . 168 . 1 . 1 . My laptop (192 . 168 . 1 . 3) can still see the machine which has the usb adaptor (192 . 168 . 1 . 2) and access shares but cannot see or ping the router again until i reset the router, computer with usb adaptor and the laptop . Any hints or better ways to go about it would be greatly appreciated . Cheers, Ash |

This might confuse the switch . I would be inclined to have 2 LANs . One (wireless) is the desktop (say 192 . 168 . 2 . 1) and the laptop (say 192 . 168 . 2 . 2), with the desktop being the gateway to the "world" (your switch and the router), and the 192 . 168 . 1 . x wired network as before . This might mean an extra line in the router table . It won't expect to find the other net outside because 192 . 168 is "non-routable" . I hope the switch will be smart enough . :D That might work . :D Write down the settings you have now, so you can get back if it doesn't work . |
