136412 2003-04-17 02:50:00 Being a bit lazy here but I know PressF1 gives good advice, so am I correct in saying DVD speeds are faster than CDROM speeds.

e.g. If I had a 16x DVD Drive and a 16x CDROM Drive the DVD Drive is faster or the same?

136413 2003-04-17 03:29:00 yes.

a single speed DVD will push data at the same speed as a 16 speed CDrom. and a double speed DVD will push data at the speed of a 32 speed CDrom.

136414 2003-04-17 03:36:00 1x DVD is different to 1x D

CDs are done on 150KB/s so a 16x CD-ROM would do 16 * 150 = 2400KB/s.

I forget what the DVD speed is but it works out roughly that a 16xDVD will read CDs at around 48x.

136415 2003-04-17 03:47:00 So a 52X DVD will need an armourplate case to contain the lethal fragments of polycarbonate. :D Graham L (2)
