136848 2003-04-19 00:20:00 Am fed up with windows locking up at least once a week. Is there a version of Linux around that a non tweaker can use? Why can't I get Apple OS and install that? Bumfluff (3523)

What version of windows are you running????

Have you gone throw & remove the Programs that you do not use often or not at all.

You will have to go out & buy a apple computer, you just can’t go out & buy that OS.

136850 2003-04-19 01:17:00 once a week?

thats nothing. I freeze atleast once a day using windows. I use mandrake linux, very good for cross over from windows.

Takes a while to configure, learn how the file system works, were programs are installed, etc.

Yoper is good however i couldn't get my Geforce 4 Ti and SB Audigy to work.

Because OS X is compiled for the PPC architecture . "PC's" as they are called, use the x86 architecture and therefore cannot natively run executables compiled for the PPC architecture .

Rumour has it that Apple maintain an x86 port of OS X, just in case they need it, but it looks like we won't be getting it any time soon .

136852 2003-04-19 01:39:00 whats are you doing just before it locks up? what program are running?

you may have dodgy hardware so changing OS won't make any difference.

whats thes specs of your pc?

136856 2003-04-19 03:22:00 was windows installed fresh when you upgraded?

otherwise find what programs are running in the background and some details of your pc.

my win98se very rarely crashes. most of the time it crashes due to me tweaking it to much! ;-)

136857 2003-04-19 10:12:00 It's almost certainly housekeeping.
Have you cleaned out your Hard Disc and Registry lately. What about going through with Ad Aware and virus checker, and trying a scan and defrag?
Check the FAQS if your not sure.
Once you have done that, things should improve. If they don't, get back to us.
