136674 2003-04-18 07:40:00 Hi,

Some of my friends bought a new computer recently, and I connected it to the internet today.

I have found that browsing a certain websites (Yahoo and Real.com so far) the computer will just randomly lockup and needs to be reset.

I have updated Video, sound and modem drivers, had no affect. I also have downloaded all the windows updates, still does it.

It only seems to do it with these two sites.

I have never come across this type of problem, anyone have any ideas as to what could be the cause??

System Specs:

AMD Athlon Processor
S3 Video on MB
256MB RAM
WinXP Home SP1

Sorry about the small amount of specs, but I can't remember all off the top of my head.

Any help would be appreciated.

136677 2003-04-18 08:07:00 Hi Guys,

Firstly, thanks for the prompt replies.

They have IE version 6 (Standard XP broswer). I am not sure what version of Java is install, my next step was to install the newest JVM...

136679 2003-04-19 01:16:00 I have IE 5.5(Win ME) & I tried those pages & my pc does not lock up when I go to them.

Try repairing IE 6.0 see if that helps.

136680 2003-04-19 01:45:00 get the latest Java VM for windows.

Try mozzilla (www.mozilla.org). If it works then its the IE.

I dont have XP so i wouldn't know how to reinstall the browser.

136681 2003-04-19 03:15:00 Hi,

I have installed the latest Java VM, didn't help.

I am at a loss with this problem.

136682 2003-04-19 03:27:00 have you tried repairing IE ?? (add/remove programs- IE- repair) tweak'e (174)
136683 2003-04-19 03:33:00 Yes, I have tried that too.

I have also tried a different ISP.

I am thinking that the problem is hardware related now. I think maybe the modem could be slightly dislodged or damaged.
