mmmmm........not likly as it would be happening on all web pages and all apps accessing the net.

not to sure on this problem but a basic clean out /check over would be a good starting point. also you could try reseting tcp/ip. scan for spyware, check IE settings. clear out temp files and cookies. reset IE back to default. firewall ??

136685 2003-04-19 03:41:00 Have already done everything you have suggested.....no firewall either.

I was wrong in my first post, it just seemed to do it on those sites, but I have no found it is just completely random.

er.....what was that?? is it completly random or is it only on those sites?

might pay to install a firewall and see if anything esle is trying to access the net.

what is the temp internet file size set to ?? keeping it smallish can help (eg 40meg).

136687 2003-04-19 03:57:00 could it be system over heating??

136688 2003-04-19 04:16:00 The first thing I would check is if there is any spyware running on you computer. Its the most common cause of IE crashes on the computers I see.

Bring up Internet Options, goto the advanced tab, and uncheck "Enable 3rd party browser extensions". You will have to reboot for it to take effect.

If that doesn't work, grab a copy of adaware from here (www.lavasoft.de), and let it remove any spyware it finds.

136689 2003-04-19 04:19:00 The CPU temp is normal and I have already tried Adaware. Spoon (3622)
136690 2003-04-19 04:25:00 Do you have the latest patches for IE6 from windows update? that might fix a few things..

Failing that, get a real browser. I tried Opera 7 a few months ago, and haven't gone back since, except on for the odd occasion..

136691 2003-04-19 04:58:00 I have already got all the latest windows updates.

And why should I change browsers, the point is that it shouldn't lock up the computer and could be a hint to a larger problem.

Can you get hold of an external modem and try that to see if it has the same problem?

136693 2003-04-19 23:11:00 IE6 can be very fussy , I use Opera 7 50% of the time as it is faster and has better memory management etc kiwibeat (304)
