136652 2003-04-18 05:40:00 Seen you having problems with the 30-day trail try & reinstall it.
If you keep having problems with it, uninstall it & try AVG & Zone Alarm. :)

Hope this helps.

136656 2003-04-19 03:22:00 ok because it was also making my machine so slow, and it kept jamming the system, i have uninstalled it ( which took ages)

and am now norton free, even though it seemed to be doing a good job and i would recomend it for others. probably not people who have XP.
i have gone back to my AVG

can some tell me why it clashes so with XP?
what makes it run everything so slow?

and if its like this how come it is so widely used?

136657 2003-04-19 03:45:00 Why so many people use it is
1/ Marketing..quite often come on CD with new PC (trial copy)
2/ Generally, people don't know there are choices out there
3/ Once the trail is loaded, why get rid of it.
You also need to answer yourself...why did you install it?
Nortons has it's good points too, it usually spots "in the wild" virus's better than others according to the reports. But it "bury's" itself so deep in the windows software (cause's slow down too), that conflicts can happen and often do, with fatal results. Probably works perfect if you stick with the original install and load no other program's.
It's interesting in that on some PC's, it runs without problems, while others it causes blue screens and lockups. No rhyme nor reason.

yep thats the one thing i do hate about it even tho i used nortons for years.

mind you look at the others...

panda.....crash happy, can't even get it to run on my pc.

avg....very good but updates are HUGE.

mcfee......problematic, often getting rid of it and installing nortons fixes a lot of problems :^O

in the end what ever catches viruses ok and dosn't crash out your pc will do!

136659 2003-04-19 04:17:00 Nortons have pretty good Tech support, you can ask them a question and they'll get back to you within a few days at best with the right answer .

I had a similiar problem a while back . If nortons isn't starting at startup, try go into the options and turn it onto manual startup . THEN put a shortcut to it inside the Start-> programs -> Startup . Next time you boot up it should load correctly . The reason is there is sometimes a conflict between windows and nortons starting up so early (in automatic mode) or something like that .

If that fails, go into Run -> MSconfig, and check the startup tab . There should be a few programs ticked to run in there . "ccApp" and "ccRegVfy" . I think one of them might be something to do with Nortons Net Security, just check whats available . Anything from Symantec corp should be safe to run .

Do a reboot, and if everything is working fine don't do this step: Now while still in msconfig, click the services tab, and check hide all microsoft services . Now make sure everything that is Symantec Corporation is checked to run and is started .

That should fix it, if not uninstall and try reinstalling to a dif directory . I don't know what peoples problems with it are in XP . It works perfectly for me, Internet Security 03 and AntiVirus 03 .

Don't use zone alarm or whatever, they are primitive and you can't configure them half as much as NIS or NAV . By the way, NEVER ever install Mcaffee antivirus whie you have nortons on the computer! hehe

I support whoever spends the most on advertising ;)

if they spent more money on advertising then more people would know, wouldn't they!

> 3/ Once the trail is loaded, why get rid of it .

That's why it is a trial and that is why they spend lots of money on advertising .

Yep been there with conflicts . Although using their online support there is always an answer .

My reason is the simple fact that they helped me . I was using PCillan (bundled with computer) but when I got infected with virus they were no where to be seen when I asked for help . (actually they did reply 2 months later) . I wasn't even using NAV but emailed them anyway and they replied 2 days later . The next day I went out and bought Systemworks and have never looked back and I am using XP . Service is everything to me .
