2003-04-21 05:53:00 | I recently received an email which had - Animation, text ,music and graphics - wonderful. I forwarded to another XP computer and the only thing received was the text. Is this my PC at fault or the recivers.?? My system is WindowsXP home with OE6. What settings should I be using?? Many thanks - harold

2003-04-21 06:20:00 | Hi Harold, In the Tools/Options/Security of OE 6 does the computer have a tick in the "Do not allow attachments which could be a potential virus" box? If yes then the other computer will not recieve that email as intended. Pauline.

2003-04-21 07:51:00 | Hi Pauline, Thats interesting. Harold is obviously receiving the complete email with attachments etc.. But when forwarded the receiver does not. So does the option you suggest to untick "Do not allow attachments etc" apply to sending, receiving, or both? I'm curious as I sometimes receive emails that lack the images etc. although my 'do not allow' is unticked. Maybe the option only applies to sending emails, & if the sender has the option ticked the receiver will not get any attachments. Do you think this is correct? Seems strange, as I had assumed the option was to protect the receiver from any suspicious attachments. I'd be glad to have your advice & comments Pauline.

2003-04-21 09:36:00 | Hi Bazza, It was just a thought I had about the 'security tab' & not allowing attachments through. This would apply to the receiver & how they have their settings. Not sure about the sending though. I use OE5 & that does not have that particular security option. Susan B would be more knowledgeable here. Susan B where are you? Pauline.

2003-04-21 10:02:00 | ok Pauline, thanks . . so it was just a thought . You suggested that Harolds settings, as the sender prevented the attachments being received . But now you say that the receivers settings apply . . I'm getting thoroughly confused now . . haha Then again, you say your OE 5 . 5 does not have the option we are discussing . . Never mind Pauline, thanks for being here and helpful, and as you say: Susan B, where are you ?

2003-04-21 10:11:00 | > Susan B where are you? Aw shucks!! :8} Jim B is the email expert, not me! Where are you Jim B? :p :D About the only thing I can think of is that OE "dropped" the attachments when forwarding . Or that the "attachments" were not actually attachments but were embedded in a HTML file linked to somewhere online and the links were lost . Nah, that doesn't sound right . . . . Try going into OE's Tools>Options>Send>HTML Settings (in Mail sending format) and ensure there is a tick in "Send pictures with message" . If that does not work or the tick is there, just ignore all my waffling and wait for Jim B to turn up . :p :D

2003-04-21 10:22:00 | Hi Pauline - thanks for your rpely - Yes I have removed the tick from 'do not alllow attachments which could be a potential virus" box . But I'm confused - as far as I knew the email did not have attachmens - everything was part of the letter - there was no Attachment paper clip on it ?? More help please | aandhwhite (1165) | |
2003-04-21 11:51:00 | If you have a look at the message in your sent items that you forwarded most likely it will show that you only sent text. When you forward an email with graphics in the message body it will normally be sent as an attachment. Try again after doing the following. 1. Open Outlook Express 2. Click Tools -> Options. 3. Next, click the Send Tab. ensure that HTML Button is highlighted as your mail sending format. 5. Next, click on the HTML Settings Button, and ensure that SEND PICTURE WITH MAIL has a checkmark.

2003-04-21 12:20:00 | Hi To add to Jim's post. The recievee would also need the "Read all messages as plain text" un-checked under the Read tab in tools> Options. Cheers Murray P
