2003-04-21 00:19:00 | I purchased a Linux Terminator from Dick Smith to try the other side of computing. Open Office will sometimes start with no trouble and produce a document. When trying to open the document Open Office want to reinstall and cannot find Java. Any Suggestions?

2003-04-21 01:01:00 | May I suggest the NZ Linux Users Group mailing list? There are a few people on the list who have been involved with the Terminator offering, so they might have come across it too. If you'd like to sign up, the details are here - www.linux.net.nz My guess is that you're missing the environment variable JAVA_HOME but I'm not quite sure where you should put it to get it to work every time as Mandrake does things a little differently there.

2003-04-22 04:37:00 | If you first used Open Office as an ordinary user, it will have set up some files in your home directory. If you then try (when logged in as root) to access a document made with Open Office, it will try to make a similar set of files in root's home directory. But root's default path is different to the users' default path. That could stop it initialising. | Graham L (2) | |

The Java Thing does it look like this? homepages.paradise.net.nz If so I wouldn't panic, Every one I have done has had this, and no problems yet :D If you have changed users and it can't find the install files then if you know what you are doing you can reinstall or provide more information on exactly what is happening. Also check to see what version of Open Office you have, maybe it has a bug in it you may need to upgrade to a newer version. Current OO version 1.0.3 Also check this out, it may help www.openoffice.org Have Fun :) |

2003-04-22 08:49:00 | If Open Office has already opened and i have been able to produce a document and saved in a directory why does it want to install itself when i try to open the saved document? | fatpat (3639) | |
