137367 2003-04-20 22:35:00 does anyone know how to set it up?
I've just had a go with word and don't seem to be able to get the speech button under tools to do anything. I've uploaded the speech part from the disc and still nothing and the language bar isn't in the toolbar options either

any help greatly appreciated

137368 2003-04-20 23:55:00 I have had it going. You go to Tools-Speech, and follow the instructions. It will get you to read text aloud for about 15 mins, to get the computer used to your voice. It should work from then on, by simply opening it. somebody (208)

137370 2003-04-21 02:17:00 How good is the voice recognition in office XP? is it reliable? Archibald (180)
137371 2003-04-21 02:21:00 I'll tell you if I ever get it going...! Trev0 (1995)
137372 2003-04-21 02:25:00 I have a couple of rather large assignments that need doing, so I may set this up tonight when its more quite. Archibald (180)
137373 2003-04-21 02:58:00 Don't know how good this built in feature is, but here is a small conclusion. www.speech.co.nz

Then you don't know for sure unless you try it out your self!

137374 2003-04-21 10:12:00 I have used it, and it's reasonably good. As I can type about as fast as I talk, it's not worth the effort to use the voice recognition in it.

Yes it works quite effectively, and can recognise words reasonably ok, provided that you go through the "training" thing.

137375 2003-04-21 10:13:00 Trev, it sounds like someone has tried to set up Speech on your computer before, and didn't finish it properly. That may explain why you don't get anything come up.

Does the language bar appear, with a microphone on it?

137376 2003-04-21 10:54:00 thanks somebody I have it up and running now, it was a setting deep in the 'regional and language options' in the control panel, slowing me down.
so now I have the very sketchy speech recognition on the go....I hope it gets better!
