137233 2003-04-20 07:26:00 ok i'm having a bit of an argument with a mate at the mo. is there some kind of law about having rubbish in your street? for example, last night we went to a party and there were loads of bottles in the street, and some neighbors came out and cleaned it up. is there actually a law regarding this? tango (2697)
137234 2003-04-20 07:34:00 there is litter laws in every town this is from palmerston north

ILLEGAL DUMPING OF RUBBISH
The illegal dumping of rubbish or littering of any kind in public places, on roadside and parks and reserves is an offence under the Litter Act 1979. Any person or individual comitting such offence is liable an instant fine of $100, or on prosecution, a fine up to $500.

The Council asks that you report incidents of this nature so that follow up action may be taken. If possible the recording of details such as the date, time, location of the offence, name of offender, witnesses, vehicle registration number will assist in our investigations

137237 2003-04-20 10:08:00 I hate people throwing down ciggarette butts,

But in Dunedin, they soon get picked up and recycled by the homeless and down-and-outs
