137480 2003-05-19 06:06:00 Well stu all the options that I would have checked I think have been covered here except one and it may be worth a try, right click on the desktop, choose properties.. settings tab...click on advanced button then the adapter tab and change the refresh rate for the card to a higher value.
Oh some mother boards (M/B) require that you disable the on board video on the M/B (my hp for example) by moving a jumper, check your M/B manual
good luck

137481 2003-05-26 22:32:00 Stu - that problem sure is persistent - thought you might have solved it by now. Try this - get RegCleaner off web and run it, maybe, just maybe it'll find a glitch in the registry.
If not, then I think you (or your Dad) HAVE to try swapping some components out, like graphics card, to see if you can get back to a stable system under current OS. Is the monitor OK? Sounds to me like theres an intermittent fault somewhere, might be graphics card, RAM, motherboard and it will be tricky to isolate. Leave HDD in - you'll just upset the ME drivers by swapping it around - try to keep that side stable.

As a last resort with this sort of problem, I have successfully reclaimed some PC's by dismantling, cleaning ALL components with a fine brush onto which just a whiff of WD40 or similar has been sprayed (not wet - just a smidgeon). If there is any tracing or dry joint problems, that seems to help, and it 'lubes' connectors. Do all the boards both sides, check integral chips for location, even CPU. BUT - make sure everthing is earthed properly before starting & take your time to reassemble carefully.
Good luck
