137155 2003-04-22 21:42:00 So zkeasy are you saying that a Transmate 1ghz cpu is as fast as say an Intel 2.4ghz?
It sounds as if you have all the financial side sorted out, so now you only need to find a site that is frequented by people wanting the very latest stuff....possibly a Japanese site?
or maybe even a Japanese paper? or even the Buy-sell??
someone will want them anyway.

137156 2003-04-22 22:13:00 Those laptops arn't very good for the price, really. My laptop, which I baught three months ago:

Dell Inspiron
1.7 ghz Pentium 4
256mb DDR 2100
GeForce 2 GO 32mb
20gb HDD
24X CDRW
15" LCD
LAN/56K/PCMICIA
USB, etc
Leather case (really good)
WinXP Home
3 year warrenty
Keyboard in english ;)

The total price came to $3,490 including delivery, gst, etc. If I went with 14.1 inch screen the price drops significantly, too, but I like a big screen. I could not handle anything under 14.1 inch.

XP runs like a dream, as do games. I run SimCity 4 nicely, older games like JK2 or Castle Wolfenstine or QUAKE III run at max everything at 50+ FPS. Yeah the laptop is a little heavy, but so what. I am 17 and carry it with me everywhere in the nice leather case, there is no problem. I have used it in train/plain, etc.

Even if your laptops had normal keyboards and full NZ warranty, and a safe secure buying method (like DELL.COM) I still woudln't get one, your prices are far from cheap if you know how to look around and jump at deals. I think my laptop (described above) is very good for price.

137157 2003-04-22 22:19:00 And I don't understand what "Thin" accomplishes. My laptop is already very thin, I can't think of any time or place where it needs to be thinner. And who wants a thin laptop when it means a 10.4 inch screen? Its like using an oversized palmOS thingy.

Sorry for being negative this is just my opinion as a "laptop buyer" who looked into A LOT of laptops before buying one

137158 2003-04-23 02:22:00 i've been using laptops since 1997. i have never owned my own desktop. what i have learnt is there needs to be a compromise between speed and portability.

i started wif a avg one. u know the big and avg speed ones. that was ok if not travel a lot.

then i got a quite thin with 13 inch and one drive internal as well as hdd. this i believe is the best one... eg.. u can swap the cd/dvd out and stick in floppy if u gonna to work.

now i have a thin one with one hdd, and no optical and no floppy. i find this a nuisance. thats why i bought dvd drive and base unit for $1,000!! i dock at home and take the laptop wif me. i do apprec the lightness. but i have to watch out that i do not have to use any data transfers as i has no drives. or at the v best i can network or via usb connections. 12 inch really is the min in my opinion for the occasional dvd. i cannot go back to 10.4 inch.... which means no dvd playing on plane. but it does mean i can email a draft offline while watching tv on a charged up batt w/o being a suitcase to carry around.

yes i prefer a thin lappie with one drive and one hdd for say home if i do travel a bit and carry the palm wif keyb fullsize on the go and sync at home.... if i do not travel from my 2nd home to 1st home freq i would get a desktop pc and the palm for on the go... desktop are cheap, u can customise them for ur exact needs, tweake it, and upgrade wif minimal fuss and cost.

my laptop all i can do is add a 16x cdrw/dvd combo (pricey!! $700 least i think), i have a dvd alone now, larger hdd think 30gb is max, ram upgrades (mine 320 max, many 512 or 1024mb only) and a range of pcmcia products. options are hopeless really......... and when u belted the keyb a lot it costs like hell to replace it. comin to think it would be quite satisfying gettin a new keyb now.... i now hope someone else upgrades desktop soon so the lappie will be dedicated to email. web and office applications only...

137160 2003-04-23 11:54:00 personally,
1.9 kgs is not too light. nice compromise if the optical drive comes wif it in the main system. seriously $3k is pricey since u are not already established. and i thought u cannot provide invoices - sell 2nd hand AS NEW. i would say $2k max. this excl the office package thou.... since i am unsure if u gonna provide original cds......

have a look in trademe.co.nz for something similar.
is floppy provided??

fujitsu is not too a gd brand in laptops. i know since i travel and know many people why and how they get them.

i believe its not about that is $3k cheap vs others.... its how u can get $3k off a customer when u are so new to this. most impt it has no nz warranty - risk arises. i personally will never buy something wif no nz warranty. if i did buy it, its on the assumption wif no warranty at all. i will not be willing to spend insured courier to jap jus for service. if the hdd broke down, i would jkust buy my own with more money than sending it. heck! there would be chance i would never see it again. it would not be insured since jap would receive it so nz post would say they have delivered and signed by "ur destination" therefore the customer loses out.

137163 2003-04-23 12:58:00 Why do you guys have to rip into him like this? This is a "help" forum not an "abuse" forum. :p

Another interesting point: The comments from people that seem to be on zKeasys side are from people that have registered in April 2003....Anyone clicking on here?? :D
