137450 2003-05-07 09:41:00 Stu - try getting back to basics. Did the problem suddenly occur, or has it gradually got worse? Any software/hardware changes it might have been linked to?

First thing I would do is check under the bonnet. Unplug the PC, earth yourself to the chassis, then go over all the connections on the motherboard (especially the graphics card if its a plug in - in fact drop it out and wipe the connectors with a little meths on a clean, lint free rag). Use low pressure compressed air/clean paint brush to dislodge any dust from the motherboard, fans etc. Check the RAM chips and cable connectors carefully too.

That done, reassemble everything and fire it up again. Did you install ME over top of Win98? If so that may be a causal factor and I'd consider moving data to another partition and reformating, reinstalling ME clean with the latest drivers. Check Ctrl Panel, Device Mgr for any conflicts and if there are some, then remove the offending device (in safe mode) and try to figure how best to avoid in future, if installed you may find dropping another card out temporarily may help. Check BIOS for AGP settings, IRQ's, try most basic bios settings.

If that all fails, then beg/borrow another graphics card and try it, also check the monitor cable and the monitor itself - maybe the fault lies there.
Hope this helps

137451 2003-05-13 03:45:00 Sorry for the delay to replying to your post:

Before I reply to the above/below post, I will tell A little history: here goes :D

I think before the America's Cup (or a little bit even before then, my onboard graphs gave up so dad stuck a 16 or 15mb(I think, cant remember & do not know the make of it) Graphics card in my pc,

Then because I was doing things to help Virtual Spectator during the middle of the Louis Vuitton & America's Cup (which I cant tell you because lets just say the TV is involved . . ;))

Dad stuck this NVIDA GeForce4 440 Graphics Card in temporally

(The resign why dad had to stick this in, is because the - 15 or 16 MB was not happy with all the work… . ),

So I have only had this NVIDA GeForce4 440 Graphics Card for a few months… .

Also I do not know if this is a 2nd hand Graphics Card or a new one .

Like I sad above this Graphics Card has been in for a few months, so it would not have that much dust in there . :)

Yes & No,
But I have swap hdd since then (got a bigger one 10GB) so to your question No :)

What I might get dad to do is to put this hdd in too another pc & leave it in it for a few days/weeks & see if I have the same problems, then I can see if it is hardware or OS .

137454 2003-05-13 06:38:00 Those pictures you posted look more like you running out of resources, when this happens windows will now redraw the windows behind it and hence your left with a big blank spott.

1. what version of the Geforce drivers are you using?
2. Run resource monitor in your taskbar for a week, see if the resource meter drops down when the thing occurs (although looking at your picture it looks like your already doing this)
3. reformat
