> Program. (I think thats what it stands for)

Actually, it stands for the GNU Image Manipulation Program - but you were close enough. :-)

Here is a mixture of Windows and Linux programs I couldn't be without:

- Firebird (a.k.a. Phoenix)
- ZoneAlarm
- The GIMP
- Outlook Express
- KMail
- Frozen-Bubble (the best Linux game out there, and so very addictive)
- Lightning Download
- Quintessential Player (a fantastic little music player)
flyer590 (2523)
137289 2003-04-21 08:31:00 For Windows (Generally Win2K)(In Order):

1. WinAmp ( 2. 90)

WinAmp.com
A GREAT MEDIA PLAYER TO RIVAL WMP!!! It now supports Video Playback too - Its alwas number one, and at a 2. 4 odd meg download.. I keep the latest setup on a Resue CD I make with ALL proggy's you may need after a format for everything! Very useful.. have tones of proggy's on it!

2. Phoenix (Like flyer590)

goto google, type "Download Phoenix Nightly" and click Im Feelin Lucky
A great Web Browser, never crashes onme.. and is it now called Firebird?

3. WinZip

WinZip.com
You all know what this is!

4. Remote Administrator

rAdmin.com
Useful Remote-Admin utility!

5. ICQ Lite

icq.com
ICQ only Lite, and no Ads either! Smaller download, Great!

6. MSN Messenger
messenger.xtramsn.co.nz
MSN Messenger, need I say more?

7. DirectX 9

Dunno, search MS.com
Gotta have this for games, and the latest provides such an improvement in performance for the Family's PC with OnBoard Shared AGP!!

From there on in, they're just non-essential proggy's i like to use:
8. Multimedia Fusion:

3. zip" target="_blank">www.geocities.com
The URL is for my Chat software that Ive programmed with MMF - Very useful tools for making presentations, screensavers, games, and progs in general!

9. PuTTY

Dunno the URL, serach google for PuTTY.exe
What I use to remotely connect to Linux Boxes via SSH, or TelNet.. I used it to reboot the PF1 server at the start of the year when it went bung... but cannot anymore seeing as I dont work at IDG :-)

10. Folder Size Shell Extension

Search google for URL
When you view a folders properties, it has advanced statistics, like the size of sub-folders etc. Quite useful!

Now for RedHat Linux:

1. MP3 Support for XMMS

Google search for it
It allows XMMS to play MP3's, as RedHat leave out support for it due to possible copyright issues!

2. WineX

Transgaming.com I think
Alows some Win32 games/programs to run under Linux, VERY GOOD!

3. XFCE

google search again...
A Light-weight Window Manager I wouldnt be without on slower PC's! Ran great on a P133 with 24MB RAM!

4. NTFS Support

google search, or look up in the PF1 Archives
NTFS Read-Only Support for RedHat and other distros!

5. smb.conf

comes with RedHat
Samba allows Linux to look like a Windows PC on Network Neighbourhood, and I just copy my setup/config file across and Im up in 2 seconds.. only takes about 90 seconds to do a full setup otherwise if your know what you're doing!

6. YANC

Dunno.. google?
Yet Another nVidia Configurator is great for setting up your nVidia Card, but only after ( 7. )

7. nVidia Drivers

nvidia.com
I like the latest :-)

8. Xine

google or sourceforge
Xine for playback of MPegs/AVI's/VCD's/DVD's!

And that's it for Linux.. everything else comes with it, but there's tons of other doze proggy's I use!

If anybody likes I'd post a list of the stuff I use... but only on request :-)

Cheers
