137125 2003-04-21 02:22:00 sorry correction. the GST by NZ customs will be charged if GST is $100nz or more after currency conversion. Not $500nz as i said before. i was confused. As one time when it was $400us = $100nz tax.

ie .$800nz value = $100 added on top (12.5%).

137126 2003-04-21 02:27:00 depend on seller. some yes.. some no.
also if u deal with likes of paypal using credit cards. foreign nations using a nz c/c will be converted at a premium currency conversion rate. like 5-10% higher than NZ-US over counter cash rate in a NZ bank!!
plus all the jazz of postage, insurance and GST.

Remember!!

137127 2003-04-21 02:34:00 pardon me, it was not the R series. $1400-1600US is the T30 model!!! Do ur homework. 40GB, P4 1.8, 256MB WIFI, DVD and 3yr warranty.

so as tweak said. do ur own homework. u can log onto ebay and calculate for urself. u now have all the info u need.

137128 2003-04-21 05:11:00 Can you better the price of a pc company laptop as seen here (www.thepccompany.co.nz) zkeasy? as for me it doesn't need to be the newest comp out, just to be able to do the job..
Or are you looking at supplying just state-of-the-art comps?

give us some examples of prices of comps we know about..

It doesn't bother me if you're a fridge salesman, as a good salesperson can turn his/her salesperson experience to sell anything. Of course I like the idea of buying my compu from compu people, but I'm sure salespeople at noel leeming and dick smith and the like have virtually no knowledge of how good a new comp or any other new item might be, as it's 'new' (and usually untried) and yet we still buy stuff from them.

sounds like a lot of people have been burnt before, so perhaps I've been lucky..?

I've been watching this forum for a while now and up to now I thought it was pretty good. That is, when someone comes to you for help all you can do is give him negative feedback, not everyone is a crook in this world you know.

Tweak'e & Rayonline you two are idiots you should grow up instead of kicking zkeasy down when hes trying to get his proposed business on its feet.

If this is the sort of advise you give out to people who ask for your help, then I'll never visit this forum again. X-(X-(X-(

137131 2003-04-21 06:45:00 Very unusual behaviour. They aren't usually that bad. I think the person "in business" is trying to go heads with the consumers, telling them to think about buying.

I think New Zealand would probably not have a market existing for these super small, but slowish, laptops. To me personally, I think you should think more towards becoming a wholesaler of the normal laptops, around the $2000 range and compete there. That way, you can earn from being a wholesaler, and gain more attention by selling stocks through the resellers.

In terms of warranty, I believe it is important that you actually either import parts yourself or have some type of backup service available locally.

The typical New Zealander would probably go for big and good, rather than small, but *crap* (I mean, not as good as others on the market). Currently it looks as if the $2000 +/- market is doing best. I wouldn't think that laptops worth $4000 or so plus would have much interest from consumers.

Good luck,

137132 2003-04-21 06:49:00 i never used one red face icon .

the exclamation marks were for emphasis . i'm merely passing my experience down to someone as i have been burnt b4 . i do not want someone else to experience what i had . that was $400 in GST unexpected charges when it was declared as a gift from a friend . too, i was too burnt on unexpected c/c exchange rates despite researching at a NZ bank .

i firmly believe pple should not jump to conclusions before people research before, such as pointing out that i suggested one model and its the low cost R series model . the R model is $895USD .

>>Thanks tweak'e advice, i already do some homework before . And i >>think try to do something is better than just dreaming . I know my ??>>problem is no reputation at all . However, every giant is grown up from >>small . I just want to try it from a free website for a while and try to set >>up my reputation in the future . Of couse, maybe i find out it is the way >>without exit, i will stop that at that time .

lets all tone down a bit .

by the way, eBay does not ship . the seller does, the buyer is wif contact with the seller . just like NZ's version of www . trademe . co . nz
also ask the seller how much is freight b4 hand . some use nothing but Fedex or DHL therefore the postage can be not $200 but $400-500!!! (note the excalamation marks for emphasis) .

137133 2003-04-21 06:55:00 i have a thin laptop and smaller screen. yes yes... people in nz prefer big and big least its a laptop. impt is speed and screen...

there is always the PDA with the fullsize keyboard ;)

i note the ibm X series were once the highest priced series. now they are abour 2 or even 3rd. people tend to like a compromise between size and portability.

137134 2003-04-21 06:59:00 terryB- please read the posts a little bit more carefully .

zkeasy DID NOT ask for help . he simply advertised his website/shop . basicly a site offering cheap imported laptops on free webspace useing a HOTMAIL address and with a dodgy warranty on products . do you really exspect anyone to support such a mickeymouse flybynight setup?

however zkeasy has mentioned hes new at this and the buisness is yet to be fully setup hence people have turned around and given a fair bit of advice and what to do .

if i can make one thing clear here- there is no way in hell i would help, encouge, support any dodgy retailers . the computer industry seams to be full of dodgy dealers, we don't need yet another one .

if he wants to make a good buisness there are several people here who have expertize in the area . all he has to is ask .
