2003-04-20 12:02:00 | I think i post my Ads in the wrong place . You know all the small business start is a hard time . I probably should come back after I strong enough or never back again . I just want you guys give me some advise . However, the answer looks like "NO" . You all describe me like a cheater . There are many PC shops in HK/Jap only sells laptops and at very low price . I just want try something like them, because I think the price of laptops in NZ is too high . Anyway, I will still try it for a while alone . I will find out how long it will takes for repaired and set up my business account (I can accept cheque or other way at that time) . I still think send it back for original repair is a better idea, it is only takes 10 days(post time) longer than repair in NZ .

2003-04-20 22:05:00 | I agree the prices here are too high, so 'good on ya' for trying out the market. I'd prefer to see some larger screen models though as I don't like looking at tiny screens. So can you get any 14.1" screen models? and also I don't think i'd go back to anything before XP for an OS. (I'm not too sure if this is indicative of the nz market, but just what I'd look for) and if you were able to compete with the $2000 mark, for a cheap laptop I reckon you'd be in! especially if we got the comp before we had to pay, it all sounds as if it could be a great deal keep at it.. | 137117 | 2003-04-20 23:08:00 | I've bought my laptop overseas. Everything is a risk just how u can accept it I guess. I bought mine with a 3yr intl warranty (which has been serviced in NZ after the 12 months). I jus seen that page u gave me. The prices arn't that much better off. U can locate $2400 or perhaps even less in NZ Shops as brand new at ur CBD. U are still paying $2200-2950 for it and possibly hiked up postage costs (this i am unsure about). I normally buy these overseas on travel as new with a intl warranty - sale periods are great. Or on eBay again wif intl warranty from a strong seller. Webpages like that I would be weary since there is a lack of assurance. Alt: get a friend to buy for u when they travel! Importing has postage fees and 12.5% GST by customs postal service b4 they release the goods if GST = $500 min. If GST below $500 they don't charge u. I don't believe if it matters if bought in NZ or not. Laptops are made for travel for pple everyday. Somehow laptop have to make its way into NZ somehow. Get a intl warranty or u'll be taking a risk. Again the risk is for urself to determine.

2003-04-20 23:10:00 | Again, if u gonna accept send back to Japan for warranty. Why not jus go to eBay and buy wif intl warranty that can be cared for in NZL?? Saves u the headache in the long run. Or as I said ask a fren to buy and take back for u with a intl warranty. | rayonline (2134) | |
2003-04-20 23:21:00 | My advice for u is to stay clear of it. Price is not cheap and little assurance. eBay has P4 1.7 by IBM for $1200-1400US. Say for eg u go ahead for hypothetical reasons.. if u pay $2950NZ for a laptop from Jap. Then postage $100-150. Again GST by customs $370NZ. By the way, it would pay to check the currency so its not US$!! Grand total = up to $3470 which is uninsured. Perhaps add $200 more if insured registered intl postage is needed.

2003-04-21 00:01:00 | actually I was thinking that if zkeasy can get me a decent, new, laptop for $1000 or so and I got the chance to see it in action for myself, then the only prob would be the warranty . and as we've heard here, warranty's at supposedly reputable pc companies in NZ isn't up to scratch anyway . If I go on a couple of parts failing after 2 years then that would be the low end of 'normal' for pc's, if it all failed straight away and if zkeasy didn't come up to much warranty wise, than I'd lose $1000 . so maybe I could insure it separately??

2003-04-21 00:06:00 | i suggest you do some more homework on your buisness first. firstly check why laptops are so exspensive here. the pc buisness is fairly cut throat so you will need to find your niche. can you buy from japan cheaper than anyone esle? can you support what you sell? running from home keeps overheads down. do you need a licence to import goods? if you sell second hand goods you will need a second hand goods dealer licence (no big deal). i would check out everything before going in boots and all. tho a small test site on a free host isn't a bad idea. at least you can gain some feedback on what people want before committing fully.

2003-04-21 00:56:00 | I like the idea of buying my compu from compu people,as some one said who would you buy a compu from a fridge saleman let alone some unknown site,so not on me! | Thomas (1820) | |
2003-04-21 00:58:00 | Thanks for everybody's advice. According with rayonline's caculation, the price of US laptop is much lower than mine. I have a problem, does Ebay post the laptop to overseas or not? I also find out the US price is much lower than here, but I am not sure they will post it to NZ or not. And another point, your caculation based on very different model. The thiner laptop always is most expensive one. I am sure the model which rayonline's given is R series, the cheapest IBM. I also can get it at the same price from JAP. My import price is near the JAP market price, because I get it at whole sale price. Why it is still high? I think I get the wrong model. The laptop at my homepage is the TOP3 pop model in JAP and just design out for half year. You know, i just try to start a small business. I find out there are more than 300 models laptop in JAP compared with around 30 in NZ. I think maybe NZ will welcome some very new models coming. However, I find out i am wrong. I come just back from sonystyle NewMarket. They used to sell a very small(8 inch with a digi camera) model, but now it is dispeared from them booklet. I think because that model is not welcome at here. And the sony's latest model is Z series, but it it not avaiable in NZ. I will try to find some old model with big screen, maybe it is the right direction. Thanks tweak'e advice, i already do some homework before. And i think try to do something is better than just dreaming. I know my problem is no reputation at all. However, every giant is grown up from small. I just want to try it from a free website for a while and try to set up my reputation in the future. Of couse, maybe i find out it is the way without exit, i will stop that at that time. pressf1.pcworld.co.nz
