137190 2003-04-20 05:02:00 Howdy group,

I have a problem with my internet connection.
When ever I click the OE or IE icon and the dial up starts it never connects first time. It comes up unable to connect but connects every time I click the connect box.
It isnt an ISP problem, because it never connects the first time and always connects the second.
Isp is xtra.
I have W98SE
I think one of my kids has played with a setting.
Thanks for any help you can give me

137191 2003-04-20 05:20:00 Hi there.

I'm not sure what the problem is, but for a solution, try loading a new connection. Use a slightly modified name to identify it, but start from scratch. If it works, delete out the old one.

137192 2003-04-20 06:09:00 Is there more than 1 dial up account? Have a look in dial up networking folder and remove any double ups.

137193 2003-04-20 08:23:00 Also check in IE Tools-Internet options-connections then accentuate your dialup and click on settings. Make sure the name and password are OK there, or if unsure, type them in again and OK out. Pheonix (280)
137194 2003-04-20 22:53:00 Gidday,

My isp is paradise, and I have had the same problems for ages. It is intermitent though, and seems to happen when the isp is in a busy period.

I did a bit of checking around with folks that have the same isp, and everyone is having the same problem, so I tend to think it is the isp causing it.

cheers,

Robby

137195 2003-04-21 04:21:00 I have the same experience as ROBBY (I am also in Napier) . Have put it down to noisy lines at busy times. Did not have so much trouble when we lived in Khandallah when connection speeds were better also which suggests better copper connections. stumpey (190)
137196 2003-04-22 12:05:00 Hi Robby

I too am with Paradise. I have three accounts through various businesses I work with. Two Paradise and one Inspire (which works through Paradise. I don't have the problem with any of these accounts.. I don't think you can blame God (in Paradise).

137197 2003-04-23 00:35:00 Hi there,

Just adding to what GrahamB has said, since hooking up to the internet from home only aweek ago, I couldn't be more happier with Inspire.co.nz as my chosen ISP. In the past, I was on friends computers where the ISP was Paradise, and they have had all sorts of problems with that server. You can have the best, powerful, whatever, computer in the world, but it gets back to who actually feeds it's hand.
